I'm speculating slightly differently. One of Sessions' goals is to shine some light on truth. He is very well spoken and direct. He won't lead the listener, but the desired effects are:
- Call Comey's credibility and ethics into question. Many details available for that. Ultimate goal, get the public to accept that Comey instigated and perpetrated a witchhunt for political purposes.
- Repeat the reasons for his recusal, which dovetails with the scope of his recusal. He is out of investigating Trump campaign, not out of anything else. See recusal memo.
- Repeat the reasons for firing Comey. Beat the drum on how Comey usurped the discretionary power that the investigator is NOT entitled to take. Comey is concerned about independence of the FBI, but tramples the independence of the prosecutor. Stomp on the idea that Comey was fired to stifle the "muh big Russian conspiracy" investigation
- In my dreams, Sessions would particularly describe the scope of Mueller's investigation, best by "naming names" (been authorized to: in the public interest, the targets of investigation are publicly known just not previously acknowledged, no risk to FBI, or to targets, or to investigation to name them)
It will take time for the public to digest that. It is all true, and all totally at odds with press accounts for "what is going on behind the scenes."
Trump supporters might "tolerate" or "accept" Mueller, once they see how thin his scope of investigation is.
