In my Sunday column I wrote of the similarity of the Comey - Mueller investigation of purported "Russian collusion" with the Trump campaign to the confected search for who leaked Valerie Plame's name. This was a scheme against Vice President Cheney that ended in the conviction of his aide, Lewis Libby, for a weakly-proven process crime. I had missed that Comey and Mueller may well have honed their deep state purge of political opponents then, something clearly at the bottom of this nonsensical investigation into "Russian collusion" with the Trump campaign.
According to Michael Isikoff, writing in 2006, the FBI (then headed by Mueller) and an unnamed "senior Department of Justice official" were advised in October 2003 that Armitage was the man who leaked Plame's identity -- and yet two months later upon his appointment to be Deputy Attorney General, James Comey appointed his friend Patrick Fitzgerald to investigate the leak. It's hard to believe that he didn't at the time know full well who the leaker had been.
Professor Jacobson at Legal Insurrection indicates Comey's testimony suggests Mueller is already going beyond the narrow mandate of Acting Attorney General Rosenstein, and considering whether the President's discussion with him about General Flynn constitutes "obstruction."
By the Order from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Mueller includes within his jurisdiction “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation.” Comey testified that he believes Mueller is evaluating the communications between Comey and Trump with regard to potential obstruction of justice. Indeed, Comey expressed certainty in his testimony that the Special Counsel was investigating Comey’s conversations with Trump:

As I said to start with Mueller belongs to the legal profession which is nothing but a Fraternity and Trump does not belong to it and is not welcome or accepted in zDC.
Does anyone else remember those naive wonderful times of youth when they actually thought FBI was catching domestic badguys and the CIA was out there spying on the commies?
1955 ?
Remember it well - used to watch Warner Bros. Television “The F.B.I” staring in 1965.
I’m from Boston. I know they’ve been as dirty as can be for decades.
I don’t have much context for that except maybe alluding to Black Mass (Whitey Bulger) but I assumed that movie was somewhat fictionalized
Anyone see Judge Napolitano swearing that Mueller was he perfect man for this job and there is no conflict? What has happened to the Judge?
Mueller is as CORRUPT as Comey is!!!!!!
Last news I saw, also, was that somehow the DNA evidence the FBI is supposed to have for the half-billion Gardner Museum heist has “disappeared”. But digging in on Whitey led to the exposure of tons of FBI corruption.
Judge Napolitano is WRONG on EVERYTHING!
1955
That was the year. I graduated high school in west Texas. I was so naive and believed only good of the government, and really of the world. I would so like to have that innocence again!
Bath house, bar or brothel buddies? Isn’t almost eveyone in the cess pool a member of one of those fraternities.
How did Trump drop the ball and allow his DOJ to choose Mueller for Special Prosecutor. I dont get it. Why wasnt it someone like Giuliani or Christie? How did Trump lose control of this and how did Comey get his top choice from Trump’s DOJ?
Who is running DOJ anyway? Hilary Clinton?
What is going on here?
FOX is cleaning house of conservatives and Napoletano wants to keep his steady paying gig going. Follow the money.
Republicans across the board need to scream long and loud that Mueller has a conflict of interest here, but won’t because they would rather hurt Trump and they would rather lose again. Yeah they are that stupid.
Trump, his administration and the few real conservatives in the media will have to hammer long and loud about possible collusion between Comey and Mueller.
