The Justice Department issued a statement rebuking James Comey's testimony

The Justice Department released a statement on James Comey's testimony on Thursday that attempts to set the record straight on some of the former FBI director's remarks.

The statement focuses on a piece of Comey's testimony in which he claimed he was not aware of any memo saying that Attorney General Jeff Sessions would be recusing himself from any investigations into alleged links between the Trump campaign (of which he was a part) and Russian officials.

.."In his testimony, Mr. Comey stated that he was 'not *** aware of' 'any kind of memorandum issued from the Attorney General or the Department of Justice to the FBI outlining the parameters of [the Attorney General’s] recusal.," read the statement.

However, on March 2, 2017, the Attorney General’s Chief of Staff sent the attached email specifically informing Mr. Comey and other relevant Department officials of the recusal and its parameters, and advising that each of them instruct their staff “not to brief the Attorney General *** about, or otherwise involve the Attorney General *** in, any such matters described,” read the statement.

and the lie has to be "material."

He said he hoped the release of the memo would cause a Special Council to be appointed. How would that not be material? It shows he planned to interfere.

In case anyone missed the thread about Comey leaking his memo and he said it was ok since he was a private citizen. Gregg Jarrent on Fox News: Fox News

"Obstruction aside, one of the more stunning moments during the hearing came when Comey confessed that he deliberately leaked to “a friend” the contents of the memo memorializing his conversation with Trump… so that it would then be leaked to the media. Comey said it was his personal property. Wrong.

Under the Federal Records Act and the FBI’s own Records Management regulations, “any document that is made in the course of business” is the property not of the person who authored it, but the property of the U.S. government. And so are its contents. It matters not whether the document, as this one, is unclassified.

Comey improperly and, perhaps, unlawfully leaked a government document involving an FBI investigation".

The lie about "the tweet gave me confidence my story could be corroborated" is immaterial, because whther true or not, Comey admitted exactly what you say. The reason he leaked was to cause a special counsel. If special counsel amounts to interference, then he leaked in order to cause interference. He admits it. Lying about getting confidence on account of a tweet doesn;t change the fact that he leaked with the purpose of triggering the appointment of a special counsel.

The plan to trigger the appointment doesn't IN FACT rise or fall on the tweet. It's a totally superfluous ornament on his story.

He should have written himself a memo regarding his own emails.

Anybody know if time zones could explain the difference? Comey was at one point in CA while Trump was tweeting from the east coast.

I guess this would maybe change some of his supposed motivation for breaking the laws he did - in the name of “doing the right thing”...

“So YOU think that Trumop shouldn’t have fired that POS Comey...ever?”

I think that the “he” referred to is Comey:

Firing Comey set a trap and he walked right in.

After what was learned yesterday we know Comey was a Traitor, Liar, and Perjured himself. Yes Trump was right to fire him.

I agree. I was trying to clarify another’s post that appeared to have been taken the wrong way by the poster to whom I responded.

Apologies, I think we’re misunderstanding each other, or I misunderstood the original poster.
