Comey: Told Trump not personally under investigation; no attempt to interfere in Russia probe
Legal Insurrection ^ | 06/07/2017 | William A. Jacobsen

Posted on 06/07/2017 11:50:17 AM PDT by TheConservator

The official statement (pdf.) from James Comey, to be read during the hearing tomorrow, has bombshells — but they are helpful to Donald Trump. The statement is embedded in full at the bottom of this post.

Comey confirms — contrary to media reports — that he told Trump that Trump was not personally under investigation.

Comey also paints a picture of Trump trying to put in a good word for Michael Flynn, but there is no suggestion that anything rising to the level of obstruction of justice was said. Also, Comey made clear that those comments did not relate to the general investigation of Russian interference in the election.

We will have additional analysis shortly.

Here are some key excerpts (mostly) in the order in which they appear, and how they relate to prior media reporting.

Comey confirmed — three times in the statement — that he told Trump he was not under investigation:

January 6

“In that context, prior to the January 6 meeting, I discussed with the FBI’s leadership team whether I should be prepared to assure President-Elect Trump that we were not investigating him personally. That was true; we did not have an open counter-intelligence case on him. We agreed I should do so if circumstances warranted. During our one-on-one meeting at Trump Tower, based on President Elect Trump’s reaction to the briefing and without him directly asking the question, I offered that assurance.”

January 27

“During the dinner, the President returned to the salacious material I had briefed him about on January 6, and, as he had done previously, expressed his disgust for the allegations and strongly denied them. He said he was considering ordering me to investigate the alleged incident to prove it didn’t happen. I replied that he should give that careful thought because it might create a narrative that we were investigating him personally, which we weren’t, and because it was very difficult to prove a negative. He said he would think about it and asked me to think about it.”

March 30

“I explained that we had briefed the leadership of Congress on exactly which individuals we were investigating and that we had told those Congressional leaders that we were not personally investigating President Trump. I reminded him I had previously told him that. He repeatedly told me, “We need to get that fact out.””

More to follow.

This guys estrogen level needs to be looked into...

“I felt I must immediately write down my feelings after talking to Trump. I didn’t’ feel that way for Obama.”

What a douche-bag

[Comey says he has “memos” of Trump asking him to stop the investigation into Gen. Flynn.]

NOW he’s saying that he didn’t think , at the time, that Trump was asking him to lay off Flynn.

He knows that he could be brought up on criminal charges for not reporting it to Justice, if it were true.

Of course, his ‘memo’ was a fabrication to begin with.

Did Comey say he has memos saying that or is that “friend of Comey “ claiming he has memos saying that?

I am guessing that Trumps conversations with both of them had classified info discussed.

maybe - hearsay is a legal term and this isn’t a court of law. Black’s legal definition:

“A term applied to that species of testimony given by a witness who relates, not what he knows personally, but what others have told him, or what he has heard said by others.”

The layman’s definition: “what one person tells another outside a courtroom setting.”

Anything he says Trump said is hearsay.

In a court of law, if it can’t be challenged it would mostly likely be inadmissible - Nicole Simpson’s journals were deemed hearsay and were inadmissible because she couldn’t be challenged.

Will Pres. Trump challenge Comey ? maybe via twitter

On the other hand, Drew Peterson was convicted of murdering his 3rd wife based on hearsay that was ruled admissible, of what his 4th wife Stacey- missing for 5 years at the time - said to her pastor and Peterson’ 3rd wife’s attorney. Just the opposite of the Nicole Simpson ruling.

Hope Pres. Trump stays away from twitter.

Should be interesting.

I wonder who was leading and running the FBI while The “FBI Director, James Comey” screwed off and wrote his lengthy “Memos” of self-adoration? This buffoon is penning his save your butt memos relative Trump, Clinton & Obama, etc. So, Let’s hear the Senate Committee request the memos that covered all his other writing exploits, including Clinton & Obama!!!

Seems like his penmanship mantra took up all his time to CYA!! Never had time to do his real “FBI” job!!! Guy is a nutcase who is over fascinated by himself!!! What a weird dude this snowflake really is!!!

He (Comey) stated that he ONLY took memos after conversations with Trump.

No one else.

Just President Trump.

Have you all thought of this one point:

NOW IT IS OUT IN THE PUBLIC-CONSUMPTION-SPHERE THAT PRESIDENT TRUMP WAS NOT UNDER INVESTIGATION. EVER.

By no less an august person than the former head of the FBI, who got his a$$ spectacularly FIRED by said President Trump!

This is the first time this has been fully admitted isn’t it?

[Did Comey say he has memos saying that...?]

He is a pretty crafty guy and would never actually publicly say it, he’ll just let the media run with it.

It's been out there before, but swamped with false witness by the press.

>>the next committee that needs to be formed is the one holding the media accountable for supporting sedition.<<

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I am not a lawyer, but I do not think sedition is currently a crime.

I still..to this day...don’t understand what was going on with him.

It seems crystal clear to me. He's doing all he can to protect the Clintons, Obama and the other swamp monsters.

The only reason he had to "take another look" at the Hillary email stuff was because everyone knew about the treasure trove of stuff found by the NYPD on Weiner's laptop. So, he "reopened" the investigation and in a couple of weeks came back with his "nothing to see here".

He failed to do anything about Obama's spying on Trump's campaign, refuses to "investigate" and expose the people behind the bogus "dossier" on Trump, and is basically covering up for everyone who illegally spied on Trump.

Donald Trump not personally under investigation, top senators say - Washington Times - May 10, 2017

Mr. Trump's veracity in make that assertion has been questioned, but two top senators -- Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley and ranking Democrat Dianne Feinstein -- briefed last week by Mr. Comey on the broad scope of his investigation said he gave them no indication the president is a target.

Comey already had the meeting with Trump, when Comey testified under oath before congress that he wasn’t pressured....he’s sitting on a perjury trap.

The RATs are splitting hairs on that prior testimony...”He wasn’t asked about Trump, only the DOJ”.

Course, it begs the question why he didn’t think attempted obstruction of justice by the White House was worth mentioning during that questioning...

Not to defend Comey in any way shape or form...

but it’s Hillary Clinton, Loretta Lynch, Susan Rice, etc., and their boss Obama who are dirty - the people involved in the Ben Ghazi cover up, meeting Bozo on the tarmac, letting each other off the hook - that wasn’t Comey’s doing.

Comey laying out HRC’s crimes and then not recommending she be prosecuted was incredibly weird, but the FBI doesn’t decide whether to prosecute anyway, the DOJ does. So his weird behavior was weird but not consequential.

What was consequential was Lorretta Lynch not prosecuting. What was consequential was the lack of a drums and chants from the MSM, congress (both Dems and RINOs) to investigate or prosecute anything remotely related to the Obama administration.

LOL, not quite the same though.

“gave them no indication” is not “he is not under investigation”.

I think a lot of people are overlooking this, on purpose. :)
