A 25-year-old federal contractor is facing charges she leaked a classified National Security Agency document to a news outlet in May.
The charges against Reality Leigh Winner came about an hour after the publication of a story based on an NSA document detailing Russian attempts to hack American voting systems in 2016.
President Trump has been pushing Justice to go after leakers inside the federal government, which he has identified as "the big story" when it comes to Russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election. Winner's arrest could signal the federal government is going to aggressively investigate and prosecute individuals who send classified intelligence to news organizations.
Trump and other Republican allies in Washington have made pursuing leakers one of their top priorities, but Winner is the first to face charges for releasing classified intelligence.
Winner, of Augusta, Ga., is facing charges that she removed classified material from a government facility and mailed it to a news outlet. She was arrested on Saturday and appeared on the charge Monday.

The law requires that civilian contractor companies pay for their employees clearances when they do DoD classified work.
I beg to differ. How old are you now? This is generation entitled snowflake we’re talking about.
A 56 year old, when 20 was the equivalent of today’s 45 year old
Although let’s face it, it seems the motivation for your post is mostly to communicate personal insult, not to sincerely uphold any criteria for screening candidates for government clearance.
Given this, I hope that if you’re in a position to do any sort of clearance testing or screening for the government that you don’t use the sort of criteria you’re using on this forum.
She got her clearance in 2013, apparently. She supposedly speaks Pashto, Dari and (1 other), well enough to be fluent (?)
And yet she writes Climate Change communism essays, too?
This girl is a plant.
I’m wondering how thick the cover story is going to be about this.
Make that ‘we’re reading a narrative.’
I had a top secret security clearance at 17 in the Navy. I don’t think secrets could have been any safer. She, Rice Clinton, Abedin and Comey should all do time.
You’re forgetting that today’s 18 year old brainwashed socialist public school educated young adult is the equivalent of a 70’s 10 year old maturity-wise, generally speaking
Lying about me, as you have done, is neither reasonable nor evidence of faith in the true God, who explicitly forbids bearing false witness.
Your comment is of no value whatsoever.
No.
She was working at a government facility in Georgia for Pluribus International Corporation, a government contractor. She was hired on February 13.
GUILTY.
I’m only pointing out there’s a difference between insulting a person on an online forum, and actually conducting real clearance screening.
Geesh. I had one at 19 years old.
I worked on TS code word stuff. Couldn’t do my duties without the clearances!
Her evil twin’s name is Fiction Windward Loser.
We are in agreement.
It’s what her stoned mom was trying to escape - then a kid came along.
“You would be shocked to find out who has secret and top secret clearances, both in the government and contractors.”
A few years ago I was a dinner guest with a group of people I didn’t know in Columbia MD after I did a lecture at a nearby university. It appeared that I was the only person in the group that did not work for the NSA approving security clearances.
I was amazed at the things they said were ok in a background check to still approve the security clearance. Arrests and drug charges were ok, depending upon the circumstances...
It sounded like a Mickey Mouse operation.... by the way... they were all liberal Dems.
2014:
About 5.1 million people or more than 1.5 percent of the population held security clearances last year, up from 4.9 million people with clearances the year before. The new figure comes via a report commissioned by President Obama and released by the Office of Management and Budget, which estimates that 60 percent of those security clearances had immediate access to confidential data

That spells it out. Reality Winner is going to have some bad days ahead.
