Comey refuses to answer bipartisan questions from senators, saying he's a private citizen

Former FBI director James Comey is formally refusing to answer questions submitted to him by a bipartisan group of senators, suggesting he no longer must do so as a private citizen.

Comey sent an email from his private account last week rebuffing the seven questions that had been submitted to him by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley and the committee’s ranking Democrat Dianne Feinstein after Comey’s final testimony as FBI director to the panel last month. Comey was fired by President Donald Trump shortly after his appearance.

Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., joined in the request in a show that lawmakers in both parties believed the questions were important enough to demand answers.

Comey's short email specifically cited his status as a private citizen as a reason for declining to answer the questions.

The “private citizen “excuse was considered unusual by the senators since numerous former government officials have testified before Congress in recent weeks.

I have a funny feeling that he doesn’t want to answer anything regarding any possible areas where he might be a Grand Jury witness.

If true, his public testimony will be nothing.

I trust nothing....and this is just a gut feeling.

specifically cited his status as a private citizen
= = =

Then he can be threatened, and worse, and treated like the rest of us.

No special charges for assaulting a Fed.

Guess he doesn’t want to tell anyone what dealings HE had with that Russian bank. What’s the point in having him testify if all he’s going to do is defame the President? Of course, that’s the result the Democrats are aiming for.

Comey is not on the level. Grassley has been after him for months and getting nothing but non-answers and BS answers.

.
Comey knows that all he can do is make his situation worse by talking.

He must have good criminal defense counsel.

Just as he invented law wrt his reasoning why HRC should not be prosecuted (eg; lack of intent when the applicable statutes do not even mention the word "intent") for freaking espionage ....one of the most serious crimes a person can be accused of...far more serious than a run-of-the-mill murder....now Comey is inventing this new reasoning for why he should not be compelled to testify.

There is a large collection of people in or near our government who desperately need to have their asses arrested and thrown in jail. And I mean yesterday.

Fine with me. Let’s just make sure we remember this the next time grandstanding Senaturds and Turdresentatives want to interrogate some baseball player about whether or not he took steroids or some other idiotic dog and pony show.

Why wouldn’t he back out altogether if that was the case?

I think him appearing is a smoke screen. He will answer virtually nothing and save all his “comments” for the Grand Just testimony to try and get an indictment.

I think the fix is in and that is why he had his meeting with Mueller last week.

I have only ONE question.
Is he telling the truth about Trump not obstructing the Flynn investigation then or is he telling truth about Trump asking him to stop the investigation now?

> he will just take the 5th.

This is not a criminal case, it is a Congressional investigation. He can not obstruct a Congressional investigation. Congress will (ha, fat chance) find him in contempt and imprison him.
