No rain today. I was so surprised at what I called a bit of rain last night turned out to be a bit over 7/10”! Pleasantly surprised!

Wow. if the corn is nearly over YOUR head, it’s darn tall! LOL! Glad you’ve gotten some more rain there! Did Shags stay in his porch bed?

Good evening, mountainlion...you have that so right.

The stress of the times were buried....our Heroes did what needed to be done when it was needed.

Well, pooey! I'd hoped you'd gotten a little more rain but .7 is great for y'all. Every little bit counts!

We've gotten 3.2 inches today and they say there's more in store tomorrow. Corn loves rain and it grows fast when it gets a good dose. Our corn is about as tall now as it was in this pic ...

This pic was taken about 2 weeks later - same field ...

We didn't get as much rain that year so I figure with the deluges today and what we'll get tomorrow, this stuff is gonna shoot up faster. Might not be quite as tall as in the 2nd pic but it'll be close to the top of my noggin.

Shags and the other cats spent a lot of the afternoon on the back porch. The others are in now but Shags is in his kitteh bed, snug and dry.

Good evening, Pro...did you get some son time today?

I keep hoping it will rain, but nothing so far. Possibility tonight.

Wow...you could pretty much sit and watch that stuff grow, huh! I hope it keeps raining for as long as the corn needs it.

Someone posted a video of the Trio nest tonight...so I went to the site and got this....

He looks exhausted! He hasn't budged since I first clicked on the cam site.

.7 is a lot for us...and you add the .6 that we got last week and it’s not too shabby for the desert. :)

If we got 3.2’’ in one day, the whole town would float away. We have cruddy drainage systems here. Don’t need ‘em! LOL!

It does grow fast, that’s for sure. We’ll be able to see a difference by tomorrow after this rain. The soybeans do the same thing and it never ceases to amaze me.

Yikes! I hope the young eagle is just tired and not hurt. Those mean eagles that ran Hope off never left the area according to updates at the web site.

Y’all HAVE gotten some good rain the past week. Helps keep the water bill down since you don’t have to water the lawn as much, doesn’t it?

There was flooding in one part of TN today but it wasn’t quite that bad here. We had a lot of standing water in spots, especially after one brief HEAVY downpour this afternoon. We got 1.2 inch in less than 15 minutes.

Watching the video, he seems unhurt...just like, world-weary. He seems very relieved to be able to stretch out in his nest. You can see just a bit of ol’ Eggbert II in the right corner of the nest.

I wonder if the other one will show up. The Valors haven’t been back since the eaglets left.

When is harvest season for corn there? They were doing that in MO when we were there in October. My allergies were awful with all the dust the picking machines were kicking up. makes me want to sneeze just to think about it.

I have the cam up now and it does seem to be just very tired. It lifted its head a few minutes ago and yawned.
I’d forgotten about Eggbert II. LOL! Amazing it stayed intact considering all the attacks at the nest this spring.

Harvest season is early fall here. Depends on when the corn’s planted. Some years are warm early so the crops are planted early. We don’t look forward to the dust and all that gets kicked up because it covers the whole area. This county is covered with farms. We’ll be coughing and sneezing for weeks. Ugh.

Ugh. Allergies. Can’t seem to be rid of them for the past couple of years.

Guess I’d better make like a tired eaglet and get some zzzzzz’s. Morning was WAY too early today! LOL! I was very fidgety. :)

See ya tomorrow. I’m going to do a quick run-through of the nests, and then see if I can get Peaches to go out again.*sigh*

To: The Mayor; All

Good Morning to all Freepers who will come by this thread and read. I am posting today to honor a man, publicly, on this forum that he loves.

This man is my step-father, and he has been a good Dad to me for most of my life. Stanly Spychala, I love you.

He came to this country as a child, from Britain, with his family. They processed through Ellis Island and came to NYC with enough money to buy hotdogs for the family and little else. They did not look for, or ask for, handouts. They found work and began building a life here, eventually settling in Elizabeth NJ.

The family integrated into American life, becoming Naturalized Citizens. Stan grew up and joined the US Navy as a Bosuns (Boatswains) Mate. He served onboard the USS Ozbourn (DD-846) and the USS Long Beach (CGN-9) before shifting over to the Coast Guard.

He met and married my Mom, taking on and loving her 3 boys as his own. We all had the ‘adventure’ of the military life, moving every 2-3 years. Hard? Sure. But, also beneficial, learning to adapt to the new.

When I decided to join the Navy myself, I knew who to turn to for guidance. He introduced me to FreeRepublic way back in the early Clinton days. He never joined, only lurked.

One part of Freeperdom that I love is the prayer requests and support we give. Please offer prayers for him and my Mom. He is fighting against COPD and has been for several years; and my Mom has been caring for him around the clock, showing an example of Gods true love that is all too lacking in the world today. So, please pray for comfort for him, Stan, is his health troubles; and pray for strength and rest for my Mom, Ann.

Stan, I am doing a poor job of saying all I want to.

Let me start with, I am PROUD to have you as a Dad, PROUD to be able to say I am your son. And I love you.

As your child, thanks for all you did for me. Thanks for the discipline when needed. I am the man I am today because of it.

As a man, thanks for being my friend, for offering advice, for listening. I miss all our ‘stinkin thinkin’ sessions.

As a fellow sailor, I proudly salute you and your service there Chief Boats. Bravo Zulu and fair winds to you.

As a fellow Christian, it has been good, So Good, to pray with you and to know you acknowledge Christ for who He is. So, after this life, we’ll get to greet each other again.

Stan, the miles make it more difficult to visit as much as I would like. And I ask your forgiveness for not calling more. Life happens and days blur. But no matter what, you are near and dear to my heart. Please know that there is so much more in my heart to say and not near enough bandwidth here to put it all down.

I love ya. Robert

Good morning, yarddog...a cursory search re Steve Spurrier doesn’t say anything. Someone with time for a real search might find some connection.
