Residents shield Christians in bold exodus from Philippines city

MARAWI CITY, Philippines (Reuters) - More than 160 civilians walked out of the besieged Philippines city of Marawi just after dawn on Saturday, deceiving Islamist fighters they encountered by hiding the identity of the many Christians among them.

The audacious exodus came after text message warnings that a major assault by Philippines aircraft and ground troops was imminent in the center of the southern city, where some 250 militants and more than 2,000 civilians remain trapped.

"We saved ourselves," said Norodin Alonto Lucman, a well-known former politician and traditional clan leader who sheltered 71 people, including more than 50 Christians, in his home during the battle that erupted on May 23 in the town of more than 200,000 on the southern island of Mindanao.

"There's this plan to bomb the whole city if ISIS don't agree to the demands of the government," he said, referring to local and foreign fighters who have sworn allegiance to the ultra-radical Islamic State.

Many evacuees told Reuters they had received text messages warning of a bombing campaign.

It takes awhile for that final straw to break the camel’s back and motivate people to raise the bloody red hand against their domestic enemy. We’ve yet to reach that point ourselves.

And, as has happened with us recently, there’s been a leadership change in the P.I. That leadership change is a manifestation of the anti-status quo demands of the people, much like here too.

The P.I. isn’t under the thumb of Marcos anymore nor is it being led by a wishy washy weakling anymore.

God knows how far to test His followers; He did not lead them to THAT test.

They simply shouted Allah Akbar, which we can chose to translate as “God is great”. While some Muslims have weirder interprtations of that, that is close enough in English.

God did NOT test them further.

The ISIS scum didn’t challenge them any further, and let them pass to safety.

I’d say God was leading His followers from the danger, not asking them to die for Him.

I’d like to see this for the miracle that it is.

I see they had a friendly fire incident, where 11 of their own were killed in Marawi. Not good. I am surprised the fight is still going on, but I am not there on the ground. These muzzie scum bags, are not all Filipinos. Some of the dead, were foreigners. I wonder how many muzzies left alive are also foreigners? I am sure some of them are.
We should make sure the PNP and the AFP get the weapons and ammunition they need to wipe them out.
Now, my sister in law is a muzzie, but she doesn't like all this violence, and just wants to live a quiet life. We are always good naturedly giving her grief for being a muzzie. She just takes it in stride, and who knows, maybe she will start reading the Bible too. 😀
