I can tell you from personal experience that there is no wage inflation because most Americans work in industries where they are constantly competing against automation in more and more positions. A company that used to hire 10 people to do Job X is able to get by with only 8 or 9. They may keep 10 on board for now, but if one or two leave for higher wages elsewhere they simply will not be replaced.

I have had about a half-dozen peers of mine (including me) leave their jobs voluntarily since Donald Trump was elected. In almost every case, we ended up leaving a good job and taking another job that pays less but offers a whole lot more reward in other ways.

Automation is a part of what I’m talking about. Starting in mid90s MASSIVE deflation due to productivity revolution re computers. NONE of this has been effectively captured by economists, who will use older, un-useful methods to measure productivity. As a result, we really still have too many goods chasing too few dollars.

I know that seems hard to believe but, if you want a longer explanation, freepmail me your email & I’ll send a much larger piece.

I recently retired from IT as a worker bee. Ever since I got involved in IT, it has been learn new skill sets to keep your job and your current pay. I was always one step ahead of the sheriff.
