House Speaker Paul Ryan appointed a controversial billionaire doctor to a panel that will advise President Trump and his administration on policy regarding health information technology, a Ryan spokeswoman confirmed to Fox News.
Patrick Soon-Shiong, a scientist and oncologist who runs for-profit and nonprofit cancer research organizations, was appointed by Ryan this week to the Health Information Technology Advisory Committee, which was created under the Obama administration.
A Ryan spokeswoman told Fox News Soon-Shiong was an obvious choice for the committee, and dismissed a recent report questioning his financial activities.
A Politico investigation asserted that his nonprofit research organization funnels grant money into businesses and not-for-profits controlled by Soon-Shiong himself. The Politico report ultimately prompted an investigation by Utahs legislative watchdog regarding donations to the University of Utah.

Committees committees committees, advisory panels, more committees -— is this just employment for lefties? For the nomenklatura? I’d like to know how many committees there are at the federal level -— no I don’t really.

Proof they will never get rid of obamacare. I guess if you are on a committee you are also exempt from obamacare?
Unbelievable! These Republicans are not any better than Democrats. I have almost no desire to vote for any of them in the next election.
Patriots are reminded that regardless what state sovereignty-ignoring activist justices wanted citizens to believe about the scope of Congresss Commerce Clause powers (1.8.3) and the constitutionality of Obamacare, these justices wrongly ignored that a previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting justices had clarified the following.
The states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for either INTRAstate healthcare purposes or intrastate commerce. This is eviderce by the following excerpt.
"State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress [emphases added]." -Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
So constitutionally low-information Ryan must work with Trump to either implement Trumpcare within Congresss limited Commerce Clause powers, or if Trumpcare requires new constitutional powers then Ryan must work with Trump and the states to see if the states would be willing to ratify a Trumpcare amendment to the Constitution.
I’ve never heard of this guy being described as controversial before and there’s no reason Patrick Soon-Shiong should be considered controversial.
While the existence of so many permanent “advisory” committees, whether for the president or Congress is, in my opinion, wrong and builds mostly more bureaucracy and not “better” government, that is not the issue of the appointment of Mr Shiong.
That issue really only concerns whether or not he has background experience for making any contribution to the issues of information technology in the health care sector.
On the first point, such committees should always be created by legislation, not presidential independent design and that legislation should only create temporary commissions with legislated sunset provisions requiring the end of the commission. Do some research and analysis, make some recommendations and then go away.
I think there is a chance that the GOP may get very bruised in the Midterms. They do nothing to help the cause other than theirs which is basically the DNC’s. They are worthless and weak. I actually think the goal is to make POTUS Trump one term.
I think you are right. What do they want, a President Biden? As long as they get their perks and nice income, they could care less about anybody but themselves.
Hey Paul Ryan,
a Health Advisory Expert = Doctor + Patient
a Goverment Agent is just a thief, like % gdp is up 6 times, you crooks are stealing 80% of medical money from a cancer patient.
Paul Ryan’s Health Advisory Thief
What the hell is Ryan doing appointing anyone? Does he even have authority to do so without Trump’s approval?
Like Trump, Soon-Shiong is a brilliant, self-made billionaire. If he were a leftist like all those Silicon Valley billionaires, he wouldn’t be controversial. His willingness to work with Republicans makes him “controversial”.
