Theres got to be a word for this in the urban dictionary someplace, but darned if I can locate it. Its probably some sort of transference phenomenon in the psychiatric sphere. So what do you call it when you produce a product which is awful and you blame its poor reception on the people who all agree that its awful?
When you find the correct terminology for that you can apply it to the Hollywood moguls who were responsible for the production of the most recent Pirates of the Caribbean film and that long awaited (/sarc) Baywatch flick. Thats because they both tanked at the box office but insiders say that the only reason the ticket sales were so poor is that the movies received bad reviews. (Daily Beast)
And in the wake of the dual box office shipwreck, industry publication Deadline reported that insiders close to the movies are not happy with critics for warning people off these sinking ships. (Puns are over, I swear.)
The Deadline piece cited the rancid Rotten Tomatoes scores for the films32 percent for Pirates; 19 percent for Baywatchand argued that the aggregation site, which runs its scores on movie ticket purchaser Fandango, is to blame for the bad box office returns. Not, you know, the fact that the films were bad themselves.
Its the chicken or the egg argument, only in actuality these movies are definitely the chickens and theyve laid rotten eggs, so critics are saying hey, these eggs are rotten! and it turns out most people just dont enjoy rotten eggs.

Taking a page right out of Hillary’s playbook: it’s ALWAYS someone else’s fault. The Left will never learn.
Denial.
Hillary Clinton > Russians
Hollywood > bad reviews
Kathy Griffen > people with no sense of humor
the Left > Selfish rich White people of privilege
There isn’t any Talent in Hollywood, none what-so-ever!
It’s just a city of Wanna-be’s!
I would no more go to see a movie than I’d go to watch corn grow in Nebraska.
Sorry, Hollywood.........your hatred has taken over and it SHOWS!
Haven’t been to the movies in years....don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Two big tests coming up for Hollywood: Wonder Woman, which is getting strong early reviews, and The Mummy, with Tom Cruise. The Mummy is the first film of the planned “Dark Universe,” new takes on horror movies of the past. Current plans are to follow up with The Wolfman and Bride of Frankenstein. The Mummy tanking could spoil a lot of plans...
Even the trailer for Baywatch was stupid. Enough to discourage me from wasting my money.
Wonder Woman actually looks very good. The Mummy looks terrible, IMO.
News papers.. Hollywood and the media are headed for hard times..cable companies
The deplorables have had enough
Happened to be at Disney World and went to the History of WALT Disney... they used to show a film of Walt and the history of Disney
We got instead a trailer for the Pirate movie’’
It was stupid..i will see it on red box maybe
Did see Hacksaw Ridge..this is a must see (not for little kids)
Maybe I will look at the reviews
The reviewers will just start doing what Glassdoor has done. Start taking bribes to give better reviews.
Hollywood’s new hashtag - #FAKEreviews
The other day I was commenting that if they put The Muppet Movie in theaters again it would hands down be the best movie “released” in several years.
Can you imagine what fun a theatrical showing of an uncut Blazing Saddles or Highlander would be? Never mind compelling genre classics like The Manchurian Candidate (blue eyes version), The Razor’s Edge (Tyrone Powers) or (for very different reasons of course) Duck Soup!
Hollywood has become the haunt of the lame, the PC, and the dumbed down. If anything good come out of it tis a miracle.
Almost every blockbuster movie ever released got panned by critics. This seems like a lame excuse.
And Michael Moore starring in the remake of “The Blob.”
The other day I said watching something was like watching the Garbage Pail Kids remake of Gigli ... afterwards I regretted it on the off chance it actually gave so e Hollywood type an idea....
There is a huge disconnect between the viewing public and the movie industry. As long as they keep churning out what they think the public SHOULD like, instead of what it does, they will continue to tank. Technology is on the side of the home viewer, no one NEEDS to go to a theatre anymore. They can wait and see bad films cheaply in the comfort of their homes.
I believe the Russians colluded to try and bring down the American film industry. Prove they didn’t.
If Tom Cruise’s mouth is wrapped I might want to see the Mummy.
I have not seen one good movie in at least a year and a half. Guardians II was a ridiculous story. Ridiculous. Star Wars ridiculous. What Ron Howard did to the Beatles story was terrible. King Arthur was such a bad movie I was on the edge of my seat ready to leave. The list goes on. I saw what Coppola did to the Grateful Dead story last weekend it’s hours I’ll never get back and now I don’t even Ike the dead so much anymore after that
Tge Emily dickenson movie was pointless. My kid wanted to see the vin diesel thing. I was out of there and getting passes within five minutes. It wa pornographic. The manager said I sohould be prepared when a movie is R rated. Hah. It was pg 13.
So bad
