If Bradley Edward Manning can think he's a woman, and Michael Jackson thought he was white, how come Rachel can't think she is a Negro?
Life is so, so unfair.
Why doesn’t Ted Danson speak out in her behalf?
Why not indeed. For years, we’ve been told that “race is a social construct”. For example: https://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2015/06/16/how-fluid-is-racial-identity/race-and-racial-identity-are-social-constructs
Just as “sex” is biological, and “gender” is a social construct (which allows individuals to chose the gender they “identify with”); one should be able to chose the race they most identify with. (For consistency’s sake — I’m not advocating anything here.)
BTW, IMHO, “race” is both a biological and a social construct. That just happens to be the way the term is used — usually, in whichever way best supports the point one wants to make. The semantics often negate substantive debates.
