Moles has been charged with carrying a pistol without a license -- it's illegal to have an assault rifle and handgun without a license in the District.
Which is it? Is it illegal to "carry" or to "have" without a license in DC. Seems to me he was arrested for "transporting" firearms as they were in his vehicle and not on his person. Is visibility of a weapon just cause for seizure, arrest? Seems like there should be more to this story.

"... the Trump Hotel in Northwest Washington..." Oh, for crying out loud. Makes it sound like the hotel is almost in the suburbs. NW comprises the largest part of of the District of Columbia, including the entire Federal area from the Capitol Building over and up.
Proper terminology for where the Trump Hotel is located is "downtown Washington" or "Pennsylvania Avenue at 11th St NW" or "blocks from the White House" or "between the White House and the Capitol Buliding".
In this lower map, the Trump International Hotel is located approximately a city block below the letter "t" in the word "Washington."
