Pennsylvania Republican Pushing Ban on Private Gun Sales

Pennsylvania State Rep. Jamie Santora (R-163) is pushing a ban on private gun sales nearly identical to the ones Michael Bloomberg-funded Moms Demand Action pushed in Washington state, Maine, and Nevada.

Santora’s bill would bar the private sales that Americans have enjoyed since the Second Amendment was ratified in 1791 and would require that every sale be processed in front of an agent of the government via a background check.

This means that law-abiding Pennsylvanians selling a gun to a fellow hunter, lifelong co-worker, or childhood friend would have to seek out a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder and the would-be buyer would have to pass a background check just as the Orlando Pulse attacker (June 12, 2016), the Aurora movie theater attacker (July 20, 2012), Gabby Giffords’ attacker (January 8, 2011), the Fort Hood attacker (November 5, 2009), and the Virginia Tech attacker (April 16, 2007) did.

Santora said it is a “common-sense” bill.

“We’re not trying to take away Second Amendment rights. Anyone who has a gun should have a background check,” he said. “If it saves one life, I did my job.”

The bill is said to “ensure that individuals attempting to obtain a firearm are authorized to possess such weapons,” according to a January memo to the House.

The bill had bipartisan support with more than 50 representatives signing on to the bill, including six from Delaware County: Brian Kirkland, D-159 of Chester; Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-161 of Swarthmore; Nick Miccarelli, R-162 of Ridley Park; Alex Charlton, R-165 of Springfield; Greg Vitali, D-166 of Haverford; and Chris Quinn, R-168 of Middletown.

I “owned” a Rifle and a Shotgun when I was eight years old, but that was when my Brother took his .22 to School since he was in the Shooting Club and you could buy a War Surplus Anti Tank Cannon from an Ad in the back of a Magazine.

We lived in the country, across from a gravel pit/quarry. I got one.

Delco is now a cesspool that the Philadelphia swamp seeps into. We moved when the Catholic school in our town shut down and demographics shifted. The Irish heritage is long gone in many parts. Just the name of bars remain. Upper Darby is corrupt and rotten to the core.

I hear those are effective on helicopters, too.

Indeed. Though the Elephant Gun wasn't particularly useful against anything much more current than very early WWII amphibious and light tanks, it still had some utility against armored cars and personnel carriers. And then along came armed helicopters, worse, armored armed helo gunships like the Soviet Hind D/Gorbach.

Though the L/39 on the ground mount skids wasn't particularly helpful, the Finnish *fencepost mount* allowed enough elevation to handle flying targets, as well as enough power to completely ruin a helicopter's engine. Add it a 20-round magazine, and their usefulness was not quite at an end.

And so the things have been dragged kicking and screaming into the XXI Century. Ammo is now running $35-#50 per round, but there are a few things that can be done about that, too.
