It was GOP held, yeah. The headline mentioned the GOP “ “winning back” the seat, which was confusing because it was “won back” from a 5 month vacancy, not a democrat.
So I saw that the unfortunately named Tom Perez’s naval reserve unit was called up, so he dropped his primary challenge to Mark Sanford.
Sanford has another primary foe, Eyeglasses Magnate and former Marine Corp Pilot Ted Fienning, I hope HIS reserve unit isn’t also called up.
Mark Sanford was an adherent to 3 terms and out. He’s now serving in his third consecutive term in his second go-around in Congress, so he should (ought to) retire at the end of this term.
It’s unfortunate about him, though. He was an excellent Congressman and leader during his first tenure, and ditto for a decent part of his Gubernatorial reign, but after the incident with his South American paramour, he seemed to lose all judgment and has been mediocre since.
