MSNBC beats Fox News and CNN in ratings for the first time

MSNBC finally overtook Fox News Channel — and left CNN in the dust.

Officials at the once third place cable news network were crowing Monday about winning last week’s primetime ratings race for the first time.

Led by Rachel Maddow, the left-skewing primetime schedule beat Fox’s revamped Bill O’Reilly-less lineup for the first time, a humiliating loss for Tucker Carlson, “The Five” and Sean Hannity, according to the latest Nielsen numbers.

For the week, Monday through Friday when people are paying the most attention to the big name TV hosts who go head-to-head on cable news, MSNBC won across the board, with total viewers and in what TV industry people call the “news demographic”: viewers between the ages of 25 to 54 years old.

For the week of May 15, MSNBC averaged about 2.44 million viewers. Right-leaning Fox drew 2.4 million and CNN trailed with 1.6 million.

Fox, which has sat atop the ratings for more than 15 years, is also losing ground to both of its rivals when it comes to the “news demo.”

The solution is obvious: Fox needs to hire Maddow or Anderson Pooper.

Most television watchers have a remote control device these days, so whether a news program is broadcast or cablecast makes no difference.
The broadcast evening news ratings:
Numbers for the week of May 15, 2017:
Total Viewers
ABC: 7,548,000
CBS: 6,138,000
NBC: 7,410,000

Most conservatives and independents get their info from online, web based news operations. Cable and TV news are losing ground quickly.

63 million voters defied the liberal news voices and elected DJT. One Trump tweet reaches more people than all three major networks combined.

A huge sea change has occurred and most pundits still haven’t acknowledged this monumental shift in the news consumption of independents and conservatives.

CNN-MSNBC-Fox don’t really move the needle. The Post and Times have become propaganda blogs.

The Russian narrative has driven even more people online to get an alternative source of information.

something is missing in such headlines?

22 May: The Hill: Joe Concha: MSNBC wins cable news weekly war for first time ever
The finish comes as the 21st Century Fox-owned network finished the first quarter of 2017 as the most-watched cable news network in all of basic cable and 2016 as its most-watched year in its 20-year history.
Fox is still winning the overall race in May, averaging 2.3 million in total viewers and 459,000 in the 25-54 demographic...

Yes, the estimates are that 1/4th of American households have cut the cord on cable television.
Nielsen estimates 118 million households with televisions in 2017. The fact remains though that with the audiences they still have, cable and network news makes tens of millions.

Would love to see Judge Jeanine Pirro instead of The Five which I just don’t watch. Lou Dobbs is my favorite.

I like Judge Janine a lot but they just gave her a prime time tv show on Fox and it bombed badly and was off the air after two days. Not great.

All the major networks are experiencing declining rating. They are simply fighting over scraps. Nobody cares what they think or say anymore. There relevance wanes with each passing day...

Give me one very good reason why we should believe their ratings ......they sure failed “bigly” on the election they were tracking.

This is all just media propaganda to oust and dismantle Fox news ....and for that matter anyone else who doesn’t carry the
Liberal, Socialist, Globalist agenda......

‘Media war’ is ON.....and they’ve made it about them now.

So “Hard-Left” MS-NBC beat out “Ctrl-Left” CNN and the newest entry in the lefty brigade, FOX News? Big whoop. MS-NBC had the snowflakes pretty well sewn up to begin with. Seems the only way that FOX could drop was to turn into an SJW-lite network, and completely alienate their former demographic.

I know that I, for one, have not stopped my dial on channel 210 (FNC on our cable) since the shake-up happened. Think I watched the first Tucker Carlson show, but gave up about 15 minutes in when he let some leftist prattle on and on without challenging them. Say what you will about O’Reilly, he didn’t countenance babbling from any of his guests. From him... not so much.
