The number of concealed carry permits in the United States has topped 15 million over the last year, according to data collected by the Crime Prevention Research Center.
Thats the largest one-year increase ever in the number of permits issued, according to the research center. In July 2016, the center reported that 14.5 million people had concealed handgun permits. As of May of this year, the number is already 15.7 million.
John Lott, founder of the group and a Fox News columnist, said several states, including Arizona, Florida, Michigan and Texas, have seen a big jump in the number of gun permits issued. There are several reasons for the increase most notably, a rise in women and minorities seeking to purchase handguns, Lott said.
"I think you're continuing to see a change in the composition of people who go and get permits," Lott said. "Women are growing at a much faster rate than men."
Between 2012 and 2016, Lott said, the growth rate for women was twice as much as it was for men. He also said minorities are purchasing handguns at a higher rate compared to previous years. . . .

Increase is probably due to people wanting permits so they can carry concealed in other states with reciprocity.
Pissed off conservative white guy tops them all.
Unless your friend was inside his residence or place of business open carry was then, and is now, illegal in Florida, Broward included. Open carry was recently rejected again by the legislature.
But a number of states have come up with their own exceptions to that rule. Alabama does not allow a non resident of Florida with a nonresident FL permit to carry in their state. If you live in FL with their CCW permit, you're fine. But if you live in MN and have a FL permit, forget carrying in Alabama. Same for others. Better check.
I’ve carried whatever I want, where ever and whenever I wanted, for the past 40 years, across multiple state boundaries while traveling between duty stations. The Constitution I swore an oath to uphold and defend was my guide. I don’t have to check jack shit.
That’s a great graphic, thanks for posting it.
I think the bill died in March :-(
Aw C'mon! Tell us how you REALLY feel. Let it all out... you'll feel better. LOL
Oh OK! you got my hopes up. I had to go to research it and the bill wasn’t even allowed to be voted on :-(
Are you in Tennessee now?
Johnson City? Marvelous coincidence :-) I was just there yesterday, I live about 45 minutes away. I’m outside Elizabethton. I assume you’re looking at Johnson City because of the VA? There’s lots of other cities in the Tri-Cities area, the three big ones and then numerous little ones. It’s all beautiful, you can’t go wrong. (Although if you want lower property taxes you do want to stay out of the city limits. But that’s possible to do and still be quite close.)
We escaped mixer for you to years ago. We decided to go galt and decided East Tennessee was the best place. It is beautiful, the weather is moderate, and the people are wonderful. As long as you are conservative :-)
PS. Thank you for your service
Speaking of open carry, my first experience with that was my first week here. Actually my first couple days. I went to the super Walmart in Elizabethton to buy some boneless skinless chicken breast. Hovering over the area was a man with a Glock on his hip.
I let him pick out what he wanted first :-)
Suffering in the sweltering heat of Miami, FL. I was born and raised here and have spent most of my 60 years here except time in university and time on active duty. And you're welcome for that. I just ran around in the woods of WA state and played soldier. When we had no blank ammo due to supply screw-ups, we yelled BANG! I'm no warrior. Never heard a shot fired in anger. Just wore the uniform and watched as my buddies rode off to various scraps like Grenada and Beirut and Somalia. Some of them didn't come back. THEY'RE the ones I'm remembering this weekend. And YUP, chose Johnson City because of the VA. As far as me being conservative, take a look at my FR Home page and decide. I think we'll fit right in.
I feel fine every single day, thank you. LOL.
