P.S. -- This was a huge factor in the 2016 House and Senate elections, especially in close Senate races. Republican Senate candidates like Kelly Ayotte (NH) and Joe Heck (NV) who publicly distanced themselves from Trump ended up losing, while candidates like Rob Portman (OH) and Pat Toomey (PA) who simply ignored Trump did better than expected.
Congressional Republicans can’t defend President Trump because he and his staff are all over the map on a lot of things that are big stories in the media right now. Put yourself in the shoes of a Republican Congressman right now. When you have Sean Spicer and Donald Trump saying two diametrically opposed things about the same story (the firing of James Comey, for example), you have no way of knowing how the hell to “defend” the president.
Not true. There are MANY GOP is safe seats who could without risk fully support POTUS and his agenda. They just don’t want to.
When Clinton was impeached, Democrats had a party at the White House. Last week a former Congresswoman Florida Democrat was convicted of 18 FELONIES. Dems immediately rallied to her.
The GOP is choosing to not support POTUS because they want his agenda to fail. In fact, they prefer the progressive Democrat agenda to his agenda. How pathetic is that?
Don’t be silly. Of course the GOP can defend Trump. They can repeat into every mic in DC that there is zero evidence that Trump has committed a crime, and thus zero basis for impeachment. Then they can run through the impressively long, bipartisan list of people who are on record saying there is zero evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia. They can repeat these two facts until A, they sink in, and B, the ground is cut out from under the MSM/Democrats.
If the Congressional Republicans had any balls at all, they would be defending this President aggressively and passionately.
Instead, they're acting like a bunch of cowards, and deserve a coward's fate...
