There are MANY species of cicadas. In Balto-DC we have several every single year.

But the 17-year Brood X is massive, and when they come out, they cover everything. It’s disgusting. My 2004 - this very time of year - was house-hunting, and many houses and lawns/sidewalks were covered with them. Not a fun time for realtors!

In 2004, I would be driving down the DC Beltway and seeing them whizzing past my car.
