Demand for legal firearms in Chicago continues to grow even as the appetite nationally and in Illinois has fallen significantly in recent months — something gun vendors attribute to the election of President Donald Trump.
While gun sales nationwide appear to have dropped from the levels they reached during the Obama years — apparently driven in part by lessened concerns under Trump that access will be restricted — changes in state laws and Chicago's crime wave have unleashed a pent-up demand for legal gun ownership in the area.
Gun suppliers have called former President Barack Obama their best salesman, because sales were driven by the belief of impending government regulations. Mass shootings in recent years, such as the massacre of children in Connecticut in 2012, prompted calls for greater gun control but also spikes in sales over fears for safety and concern over such restrictions.
As that fear has moderated with Trump's election, so too have sales, some vendors say.

Somebody doesn’t seem to be reading the national news. Demand may be down from the peak, but the gun industry sales remain strong most everywhere, at least measured by the background checks in April.
Solid industry, but prices have dropped across the board or manufacturers are offering great “freebies” to buy there product more than in the past......

Who in their right mind would want to live in Chicago and NOT own a firearm for protection?
What is not brought to light in this article is we have state legislation pending in the IL state house that will essentially allow Emmanual to put gun dealers out of business at a whim and leagal gun buyers will be taxed out the wazoo by heavy fees tacked on to IL gun dealer licensing. I would say people are getting what they want now before this thing passes.
Brings to light two of my favorite aphorisms:
“When you’re within seconds of your life, the police are only minutes away.” And...
“I carry a gun because cops are too heavy.”
Same is true in Memphis, last year they had 268 murders. 81 as of last night so far, and we haven’t gotten into the summer months or holidays when they got UP!
SOME IDIOT MOM left her 6 yr old son probably asleep in the car at 1:30 AM and ran into a MS Kroger’s, 3 young thugs carjacked the car with the little boy in it, then ditched the car and KILLED the 6 yr old.
How many times do we need to tell IDIOTS NOT TO LEAVE KIDS IN THE CAR or PETS? Mom needs some jail time for child neglect.
I’m the mom of a murdered child mine was 16 an ambushed and beaten to death with a fence post by a sociopath on his way home from HS which is in walking distance, I didn’t own a car, I walked to the grade school to pick up the 6 yr old son daily. And I hurt for the loss of this little boy, but you have to also put the blame on the MOM she should have NEVER left a child in the car, not even for 20 seconds. Much less a trip into a grocery store at any time of the day or night. It is STUPID!
