Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca was sentenced Friday to 3 years in prison for orchestrating a scheme to interfere with a Federal grand jury investigation of inmate abuse in County jails.
Baca showed no reaction as U.S. District Court Judge Percy Anderson announced the sentence.
Anderson said were it not for Baca's Alzheimer's disease diagnosis and decades of public service, Baca would have received the same sentence as former under sheriff Paul Tanaka -- 5 years.

so cal ping.
Baca ratón.
At one time Baca must have thought “no reasonable prosecutor would bring charges” ...
He thought he was untouchable, for many, many years.

Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!

I do not believe he has Alzheimer’s. just me though.
The judge was awesome. I was applauding in my car the way he said that about Alzheimer’s, that it’s an insult to the 50 million good people with it, to claim it was punishment enough for his crimes.
And too much longer in jail, truly he would become a little child, unable to handle it. I care for mom with Alzheimer’s every day.
He just conveniently forgot pertinent information. He also didn’t want an additional charge of obstruction
I am listening to john and ken show right now...love that judge. Just heard he said that.
I still do no believe he has Alzheimer’s. Just me though.
So the Nip gets 5 years and the Mex gets 3 years. Sounds like California justice.
Plus he still gets his pension. I think it is 400k
Since I live with someone with Alzheimer’s and I’ve seen all the stages, it sure could be that he is in the early stages. They can fake it well, if they can speak. But I don’t know for sure. Of course you could find a bad doc to lie about it.
Weren’t you impressed by J&K’s news guy who WROTE DOWN every word the judge said?
I sent him a soap on a rope gift set and a subscription to anal eze of the month club
How could anyone tell if Baca has Alzheimer’s? When he was sheriff, he said and did so many dumb things that I concluded he had a lower IQ than the late Rodney King.
In southern CA, the top Sheriffs from both of the most populated counties in CA, are in prison or on their way.
If someone told me this would happen 20 years ago, I would have never believed it.
If he does, then prison is superfluous, and gratuitous.
Throw him in with the general population.
$400k? That’s enough to buy protection from all of the prison gangs.
I don’t know.
Baca was standing up to the Obama/Holder/Lynch DOJ wanting to run his department.
