Are we already inside a civil war?
John Batchelor Show ^ | 12 May 2017 | John Batchelor Show

Friday 12 May 2017 / Hour 2, Block A: Michael E Vlahos, Global Security Studies, Johns Hopkins University; Strategy and Policy Department, US Naval War College, in re: Two conflicting ideas, each side sure it's right. Turns out to be a basis for civil war. No compromise, no surrender. Here, we have two kings; One is Clinton and one is Trump. Civil wars are always existential and always welcomed. All about who will have and hold legitimacy: who owns virtue, (the civil religion), what is right and true. Also, when one group of brothers sees the other one as The Other. Because it’s between intimates it becomes extremely bitter. The proximate issue is identity – who has the right and authority to define how you should think and believe. Each side demands submission by the other (art of the existential equation); nether side can accommodate. The defining moment occurs when one side tells the other: I will not submit. Thereafter, it’s a matter of who makes the first violent move. David Armitage, History of Civil Wars: “Sing of civil war” [quotation] The failure of America as a redeemer nation has corroded it [centrally]. . . . Civil Was south was crated and maintained by latifundio-style oligarchs with a slaveocracy vision. Today, those elites are seen in the US in the [coastal elites] who tell us how to think. The Democrats’s conduct is a natural response to the ruling elites, [in effect a rebellion against that tyranny]. Friday 12 May 2017 / Hour 2, Block B: Michael E Vlahos, Global Security Studies, Johns Hopkins University; Strategy and Policy Department, US Naval War College, in re: Civil war II; Jeff Davis. Finish quotation from Seventeenth Century poetry. Caesar’s assassination. Shakespeare: Mark Anthony’s funeral oration over the Caesar’s body. Spanish civil war: tore Spain apart for sixty years as there was no way to reach reconciliation. Same in the US in 1860 – no figure to bring the country together; same today – no Teddy Roosevelt or the like. I despair.

No...not a civil war....but certainly 'obstructionists' within and outside this administration.....the media have now become "Predators".... and foreign entities all conspiring to bring this administration down as well.

When you have 95% plus and more donations that went to Hillary from the 'State Dept', 'Dept of Justice' etc. the climate overall is anti-Trump.

Add in the media's "predatory" full frontal attack and you've got Major Obstruction all the way around this Presidency. And no doubt the Demorats , Soros, Clinton and Obama Machinery are pushing it all......

Not to mention the basic battle of good vs. evil being played out.

And we must not forget they have called themselves out as a danger to this country!

She got a big promotion and a big fat raise to go with it. Does the New York Post now, but still tweets pics of her family tailgating before heading in to see a Pirates game.

Hasn’t been declared publicly, but the commies have been at it for 100 years, right?

Maybe you could shed some light on an issue I have - or at least present your opinion.

I am an ex-pat, living in Germany for the past 35 years. There are U.S. military installation near my place of residence, and I've become acquainted (and even friends) with some military personnel and their families.

They were all - without exception - not only liberal, but in-your-face liberal. Couldn't even imagine someone supporting Bush II* or Trump. Never even bothered to ask first before launching into a tirade about the Republican Party*, etc.

(*I know that, among Conservatives / FReepers, there can be very heated discussions about Bush II and so-called "Rhinos" - but I'm not talking about mere "disappointment" or "frustration.")

These Americans I have met were all field-grade officers (and their spouses); could that have been part of it? Would long-term non-commissioned officers display less radically leftist leanings? What is the explanation for my experience?

Regards,

That jackass Petraeus simply has no brain. The reason WWII has such high service rates compared to Vietnam and War on Terror is that WWII was an existential threat. There will never be a shortage of people to fight then.
But wars of convenience and great chessboard neocon wars like the middle east will never attract large numbers wanting to fight in them.

Then he prattles on about how awful it is we haven’t had gas rationing or war bonds and tax increases. Basically he is whining that the people at home should be making sacrifices, for sacrifices sake!
We rationed food, fuel, ammo, materials, tires, etc, because it was a critical need, not some nutty desire to make people here suffer in solidarity.

Petraeus is exhibit A on why a modern general should bender be elected president. They want the childlike like of life on a base for everyone in America.

First, libertarians and liberals are leftists; influenced by the communist ideology. For libertarians it is social and global (the end of the nation-state). For liberals it is social and economic and global.

Second, there is no reconciliation between leftists and American-Americans - American constitutionalism.

We used to be united under the Nation of America under it’s constitution in it’s original, clear meaning. But communism has dominated the left now and we no longer share the a common goal or belief in the constitution. Therefore, there is no glue in our public.

I despise leftists like I despise communists.

There are a LOT of people that are done with the bullshit and just waiting for the actual fighting to start. A lot.

“What is the explanation for my experience?”

If you’re talking with officers, they’ve been to college. Which means they’ve been brainwashed for 4-6 years in a marxist indoctrination camp.

My simple answer would be THE MEDIA, if they are getting US network news and magazines.

They are also stationed in the UK, which has all the social programs and wealth distribution that liberals love. If they live off-base, they would be interacting with mostly the labor party supporters.

Trump is most certainly the ‘Ugly American’ to foreigners who believe in Kings and heredity.

I could be wrong;)

May have posted it to the wrong thread - just thought it was a good article for a ‘military’ related discussion.

BTW
Eisenhower was a pretty good President.

This country is so divided I see no way to unify. Once I know somebody is a liberal I will have nothing to do with them.
