Republicans are the schizophrenic party of FDR via Eisenhower.

They (occasionally) seek to resist new lawlessness and growth of government but once it’s done they, like Mr No Repeal Eisenhower, demonstrate that their loyalty is to what government has already gotten away with and not to the Constitution they swear in vain to uphold.

This is why the best that can be said about Republicans is that they suck less than Democrats, who are of course ever eager to advance new lawlessness and big government.
