In the opening days of the Trump administration, Democrats are far more interested than Republicans in seeing the news media assume the traditional role of watchdogs to people in power, a survey released on Wednesday found.
The Pew Research Center poll found that 89 percent of Democrats judged media criticism worth it because it keeps political leaders from doing things they shouldn’t, while only 42 percent of Republicans felt that way.
With Democrats out of power, “they see the media as the last line of defense,” said Tim Graham, director of media analysis at the conservative Media Research Center.
At the same time, many conservatives now see reporters as being much tougher on Republicans than they are on Democrats, Graham said.
“They don’t see them as journalists,” he said. “They see them as prosecutors in a kangaroo court.”

Watch dogs? Hardly. They are the ringleaders!
Barack Hussein Obama was pure evil and uniformly destructive to America and to the West, but the media could find nothing to criticize in eight years of terrible and lawless governance. No, I don’t see the media as watchdogs; I see them as partisan propagandists. I dismiss their claims without bothering to check, because the few I look into turn out to be lies.
Trump was corrupt for not firing Comey, until he became corrupt for firing Comey. Trump waited too long for half his decisions and moved too quickly on the other half of his decisions. Decisions President Trump makes that would be cheered from another leader are unconstitutional because Trump made the decision. No matter what though, every Trump decision requires a special prosecutor, and every Trump decision is grounds for impeachment.
That the script and they are sticking to it.
Give me an example of watchdog media.

Nevertheless, the motive for President Clinton’s firing of Sessions appears entirely plausible, given the potential magnitude of his wife’s alleged criminal wrongdoing.”
The media lost all it’s credibility long ago it has just taken time for the rest of America to notice. It’s credibility declined with the announcement by walter Cronkite and his infamous declaration after the Tet Offensive in Vietnam (Stating of course that the north Vietnamese had won the engagement though it was clearly a win for the US). Sound familiar? isn’t the 2016 election loss to the DemocRats being spun the same way?
The Modern media is nothing more than a propaganda tool for the American Left wing and the Islamists. A totalyy corrupt tool that needs to be (Oh My!) purged!
Only because they like finding something to gripe and complain about. They’re not interested in governing ... only in controversies.
Yes, watchdog media funded by people like George Soros (e.g., Media Matters). Doesn’t the Left understand many of their protest movements are in fact “astroturf” movements funded by financially powerful interests?
They’re the type of watchdogs that growl at the homeowners while the burglars are cleaning out the house.
Too bad they are not watchdogs but political activists.
Of course they do since the only time the media becomes a “watchdog” is when someone other than a democrat is in office.
I’ll congratulate every single one of them who was publicly outraged at the lack of oversight the media gave to Obama. If you give me their phone numbers I can probably call them each over lunch and thank them for caring about limiting the federal government.
After I’m done with that handful of people I’ll label the rest ignorant partisan liberals or useful idiots. They can decide individually if they are an ignoramus or idiot.
There is almost no executive overreach Trump can do that Obama didn’t set a precedent for without the slightest criticism of the media (or the ignoramuses or useful idiots)
The myth of a “watchdog media” is just that. From the tradition of NYT’s Walter Durante to CNN’s Eason Jordan hiding atrocity to the fawning coverage of JFK to Obama, they are nothing but PR agents. Had Nixon been a Democrat (and, subsequently, not pursued Hiss), Woodward and Bernstein wouldn’t have touched Watergate.
A part of me believes that Donald Trump could have run as a democrat and won in 2016. Not a big part of me, but part. I know if this happened the media would be fawning over the Trump administration and not constantly attacking him.
