Health insurer Aetna Inc said on Wednesday it will exit the 2018 Obamacare individual insurance market in Delaware and Nebraska - the two remaining states where it had offered the plans.
Aetna had previously announced plans to exit the individual commercial market in Virginia and Iowa.
It has now "completely exited the exchanges," the company said in an emailed statement.
The insurer attributed the losses to "marketplace structural issues, that have led to co-op failures and carrier exits, and subsequent risk pool deterioration."
Aetna said it had 964,000 individual commercial plan members as of the end of 2016, but that number dropped to 255,000 at the end of March.

Somehow, I don’t think Aetna will lower my premiums after dumping Obamacare.
America does not have a health insurance problem. It has a healthcare cost problem. Until something is done to address the insane costs and inflations of healthcare no insurance plan or HSA can keep up. We will end of with single payer because of this.

It’s all his fault.
I love how they kept telling us what a huge success it was and how people were so happy on it. Reality always pointed out its failure.
Pre-existing conditions are covered in employer / group plans. It’s only a problem in the individual market - which was completely destroyed by O-Cares regulations.
A market based solution is to simply allow all individuals to join interstate pools at the same risk level of employer / group plans. That way you get all kinds of customers - old, young, sick, and healthy.
Unfortunately, we’re headed to government healthcare because there aren’t enough free market capitalists left in our Republic.
But aren’t health care costs largely a result of the impact of health insurance? Akin to education costs soaring due to federal government involvement.

This is why the rush to own it and tinker with it was unnecessary. It will die on the vine but now we own that vine.
Something has to be done.
We can’t just let it collapse. It would be too destructive.
We are stepping in, and I am not fully happy about the thing myself.
I do believe this is a start. I do believe it will get better over time.
I do not want it to remain like the “fix” (if one could call it that) we are looking at now.
Trump is dealing with Democrats and Republicans who both want him to fail. I could yell at him for not doing more. I’m not convinced he could so more right now.
We have regions of the nation right now, where pricing and deductibles have gone ballistic.
Something needs to be done.
Some will see this as simply falling in behind Trump, because he supports this. Others will see some truth in what I am saying and hope as I do that things will improved over the next few years.
What other options do we have other than everyone being screwed before this is addressed. If we do that, it’s going to be a lot worse then this flawed fix.
McCain, Graham, and Snow are the three names that make what I am saying, reasoned.
