This also happened here in the US. In 1955 (or so) Hurricane Esther broke off the western tip of Nantucket Island. The resulting island was named Esther Island. When last I was there back in 2000 it was reconnected.
GoogleEarth shows it reconnected, but curiously Google's map show it as an island.
