We know he campaigned with pulling out of NAFTA

someone or something changed his mind..OR he never meant it in the first place.

I’ve criticized Trump, but I’ll give him a pass on this if he renegotiates it well. He said that we’ll leave NAFTA or renegotiate it during his campaign.

If President Trump changed his mind then that's on him, nobody else. Unless Ivanka & Jared are engaging in some sort of voodoo hypnotism out of some 1950s sci-fi movie.

Is it SOP for an assistant to call a foreign leader directly?

Trump must have said 100 times that he would renegotiate trade deals because they were done by stupid people. Pulling out of NAFTA was NEVER his be all and end all. He said, if he can’t renegotiate the deal then he’ll leave. On this one he did exactly what he said he’d do and quite frankly he is much farther ahead then I could have ever imagined on this issue. All that while the congress is doing everything in their power to weaken his negotiating hand. If the country were united the rest of the world would really be in trouble (in terms of globalization).
