Goodbye Obamacare, Johnson Amendment and …
WND ^ | May 7, 2017 | Chuck Norris

Thursday was an amazing day in Washington, D.C. You can’t say that very often.

First, it was the National Day of Prayer. It’s amazing to think about millions of Americans praying across our nation. We need it, especially in the swamp.

Second, as Vice President Mike Pence explained, Congress finally passed a bill that delivered the “beginning of the end of Obamacare.” Let’s hope the Senate approves and passes it soon, and hands it over to President Trump for signing into law.

Third, under the radar was another huge act of liberty: President Trump signed an executive order rolling back the Johnson Amendment, which prevents religious and other nonprofit organizations from endorsing political candidates. The executive order also allows people and businesses to claim religious exemptions.

The IRS website reads: Churches and other nonprofit organizations that are exempt from taxation “are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.”

Way back in 1954, then-Sen. Lyndon Johnson, D-Texas, who would later become president (1963-1969), was trembling in his boots that certain nonprofit groups were supporting his opponent and going to prevent him from being elected. So, he pitched his IRS code revision (amendment), and it was passed without discussion or debate.

LBJ. At least half of everything that is wrong with this country today can be traced to that smarmy bigeared somofabitch.

No argument. However, I would like to see trump's EOs become law where apparopriate. Otherwise, the next administration can simply revoke Trump's work as Trump has done with Obama's Eaos.

Ryan and company need to get to work writing bills that mirror Trump's EOs. These guys like to write laws, so that should get at it and support Trump's work.

The Executive Order does not roll back the Johnson Amendment. Per the Constitution, that would require a bill passed by Congress and signed by the President. - Carl Vehse
Incorrect.

The 1st Amendment already invalidates the Johnson amendment.

Hear, hear! But of course, there can’t be a test case of that if Trump doesn’t enforce the Johnson Amendment.

. . . so it would be proper to push repeal in Congress, while the tax code is being amended to cut income tax rates.

This isn’t a new revelation. The USSC has the power to do jolly well what it wants with the Constitution.

That's a common misconception -- just because the supreme court says something is constitutional doesn't actually make it constitutional -- you see, the Constitution commissions the supreme court [thus they have no legitimate authority to alter the Constitution], and being a commissioned entity the supreme court cannot have authority greater than that of the commissioner. (This is, of course, reiterating what Jesus said. [Jn 13:16 and Matt 10:24])

That’s a common, correct conception.

Oh, they can’t put a letter into the constitution, but they can put whatever lens they please between it and We The People.

It is a philosophical necessity, as long as it is viewed as a work of man.
