Paul Ryan: ‘Rescue Mission’ is Underway for Health Care

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) said on Sunday that House Republicans are on a "rescue mission" for health care.

Ryan spoke with ABC's George Stephanopoulos about the health care legislation passed this week by the House and now before the Senate overhauling major aspects of Obamacare.

"So this is a rescue mission to make sure that we can achieve the goals we all want, which is getting the cost of coverage down and making sure that everyone has access to affordable health care, especially and including people with pre-existing conditions," Ryan said. "That is what our bill does."

Stephanopoulos asked Ryan if he believed that Republicans would suffer in the 2018 midterm elections. Ryan mentioned how repealing Obamacare and overhauling American health care was a promise Republicans have made in past elections and that this was fulfilling a promise to voters.

"I would argue that we would spell disaster for ourselves, politically, if that's your question, if we go back on our word," Ryan said. "This is us keeping our word. But most importantly, it's us trying to fix a real problem that real people are experiencing in this country."

(2) Turn Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, VA - all federally-funded or managed healthcare programs - over to the states completely
(3) Deregulate the industry - allow health insurers to sell across state lines, allow banks and credit unions to offer HSAs, end the law that ERs must treat everyone that walks in, enact tort reform, end the AMA monopoly on licensing providers, give everyone a $2,500 tax credit to deduct all healthcare premiums, co-pays, deductibles, or charitable contributions

If this bill passes it'll be called TrumpCare, the Dems will run on it in 2018, and then single-payer will be enacted.

You cannot "insure" a preexisting condition. It's already happened. Insurance is for something that may happen in the future. A preexisting condition needs to be covered under a charitable program (maybe with a patient co pay).

It is dishonest to think that the government can slip that liability into the insurance pool and pretend it is anything other than a tax surcharge on our insurance.

Why would anyone buy insurance if you know you can always buy insurance after the fact. This is not health insurance, it is a tax. Let's call it what it is. We need insurance actuaries to opine on "insuring" preexisting conditions.

What next shall we allow people to buy insurance coverage for their car after they wreck it?

There is still no repeal of Obamacare in the House Bill so hopefully the Senate will come up with a full repeal. Guess what! There are a lot of Rat senators up for reelection in 2018! We just love it when a good game plan comes together.
