There is much that a Christian leader could criticize the United States - e.g., 'Why are you still funding baby murderers through Planned Parenthood?' - but MOAB is not one of them.

As others have noted, this 'Pope' Francis is a communist atheist, who uses his clerical garb to push world wide communism. Nations, such as the United States, need to build up strong defenses. History has taught that this is the only way to dissuade wars (protecting one's borders is also a must).

Is it wrong to tell the Pope to suck my a$$? I’m not Catholic so I don’t know. That’s the nicest reply I could come up with.

Will he object to the word paternalism being used as a negative thing?

In these sorts of situations, it's always instructive to adopt an "originalist" approach toward analysis. While we don't have Our Lord's views on ordnance of this type, we can look toward Pope Pius XII's commentary on the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.

In short....silence. I can find no documentation covering the Vatican's press office's commentary on these bombs. One would have to imagine that if Pope Pius XII felt the same as Pope Francis, there would be some sort of utterance. And yet...silence

In a speech on September 30, 1954, Pope Pius XII laid down the following conditions for the legitimate use of nuclear weapons but I suspect Pope Francis may not walk in lockstep with our Wartime Pope:

1. Such use must be “imposed by an evident and extremely grave injustice;”

2. Such injustice cannot be avoided without the use of nuclear weapons;

3. One should pursue diplomatic solutions that avoid or limit the use of such weapons;

4. Their use must be indispensable to and in accordance with a nation’s defense needs;

5. That same use would be immoral if the destruction caused by the nuclear weapons were to result in harm so widespread as to be uncontrollable by man.

6. Unjustified uses should be severely punished as “crimes” under national and international law.

Pope Pius XII went further, stating that "In principle, one cannot even consider the question of the lawfulness of atomic, chemical and bacteriological war, except in the case when it is indispensable to defense, within the conditions mentioned. Even then, however, one must strive by all means to avoid it through international agreements or by creating limits for its use that are so clear and narrow that its effects are confined to the strict requirements of defense. "

Nothing about 'mother.'

It is real easy to sit in a HEPA-filtered office, surrounded by armed guards, and pontificate (no pun intended) about Life During Wartime. While I continue to pray for Pope Francis, it's vital to remember that he is not speaking with the full weight of the Church in this instance. As such, I am inclined to trust the wisdom of our Wartime Pope.

Well the MOAB has been around long before now...in addition, that’s an old expression -”mother of all” to describe something that’s the biggest, the worst, the best, etc. of something...maybe it is a language barrier issue.

Mother Of All Songs.

Big Mama Thornton has a message in this song for Big Papa Franny. (Click "play" button below to hear her message on youtube.)

(The Pope's remarks about this MOAB bomb also make me wonder what he thought about this other old song:    "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran".)

I say Pope Francis had better stop drinking all of the Communion wine. His mind is getting pickled. Is that the right word? I meant pinko-ed.

Pope Frances could learn a lot from Thomas Aquenas or Pope Urban II.
