This was a 1928 show with songs by both the Gershwin brothers and Sigmund Romberg, best known for The Student Prince. It ran for a year and then was pretty much forgotten.
But one song earned immortality, and Ill be devoting the rest of the weekend to it. In it youll hear hints of the blues, and youll understand why this song became a favorite of jazz musicians.
The 1957 MGM film Funny Face had a number of interpolations of Gershwin songs from other shows, as well as an entirely new plot. This clip from the movie has Audrey actually singing and not dubbed by Marni Nixon.
