“Next time youre speeding, try the Comey defense. I didnt intend to speed.
I actually sort of used that once -— accidentally.
In high school I had a 1966 Mustang fastback with a hoped up 396.
I was going up North on US 289 near Plano Texas when it was still a rural farm area at about 2:00 AM and got stopped for going like 72 in a 55 zone.
When the cop asked me if I knew I was going 72 n a 55 zone I blurted out something like “Oh thank God! I wasn’t paying attention thought I was getting stopped for going really fast.”
The guy laughed and asked what I meant. I told him “Sir, if I’d been meaning to speed I’d have been going a lot faster than that!”
The guy laughed and let me off with a warning.
I’ve forgotten how it worked but less than 20 mph over the limit was basically low level misdemeanor and was really cheap. Over that amount and you were in a lot more trouble.
“In high school I had a 1966 Mustang fastback with a hoped up 396.” ........ Perhaps you are confused. The 396 is a Chevy engine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Big-Block_engine#396_and_402 ...... The biggest engine available in the Mustang in 1966 was the 289 cu. in. 271 hp. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_%28first_generation%29#1964.E2.80.931966 ........ I had a 1967 Mustang 390 cu. in. 325 hp. It only weighed 2600 lbs. Very fast. Same car as the one in the movie “Bullitt”. Mine was yellow.
Great story!
I got stopped on a rural road here in Texas back in the 80’s. I asked how fast I was going and he said..”Well, I caught you skidding at 88 in a 55” Almost lost my license over that one.
