Republicans Get Their Health Bill. But It May Cost Them.
New York Times ^ | May 4, 2017 | By JENNIFER STEINHAUER

In voting to repeal President Barack Obama’s signature health care law, House Republicans finally delivered on a key Trump administration goal and on a campaign promise that they have made for the better part of a decade — but at a potentially steep price.

But by leaning on members to vote for a bill that many fear will take too much health care from too many people, Mr. Ryan has exposed moderate Republicans to withering political attacks. This is especially true in the roughly two dozen districts where Hillary Clinton prevailed, but it is also the case in places where the Affordable Care Act’s popularity has been increasing.

“If you’re in a very moderate-to-Democratic district — yeah,” said Representative Peter T. King, Republican of New York, conceding the potential risk to Republicans.

Mr. Schumer gave a preview of the Democratic blitz facing House Republicans — who will return to their districts for a week off to gauge voters’ reactions — describing the measure as a “breathtakingly irresponsible piece of legislation that would endanger the health of tens of millions of Americans.”

Republicans are bracing for those kinds of encounters. “They’re not going to be less angry,” said Representative Bill Huizenga of Michigan, referring to the several town hall meetings he has held with angry voters. “But what I am also hearing back home is that most people expect us to do something and I’ve been saying I want to do this since 2009. So this would not be a surprise for anyone who voted for me.”

That is like saying “The Allies have won the Normandy Landings, but it may cost them”

Who needs insider info on the Democrats when the NY Times writes up Dem talking points disguised as articles and op-ed pieces every freaking day of the year!

And, in 2016, Trump was going to take down every Republican with him.

It was my understanding that the Republicans couldn’t get squat on the Health Care Bill. I thought the Repubs were defeated in trying to undo Obamacare.

Is the NYT lyin’ again ?

I’m sure there are Judges standing in line, right now, that
will decide if Congress has the authority to vote!

That’s why they use wishy-washy words like “might” and “may” when they write these articles. It’s an automatic disclaimer in case they are wrong.

My guess is there will be hundreds of articles by the biased media suggesting this or that problem with said plan. Personally, I don’t think the rinos spent enough time to do a stellar job of resolving all the issues with odumbocare and will probably have set a trap for themselves as the implementation process begins. Time will tell.

If it does cost us, the price will be far less than what passing that evil law cost the democrats. The price will be far less than the House not passing that bill (or the Senate killing it). Conservative voters expect Congress to deliver.

It will cost them only if it is perceived as not being a real repeal. I think that is a genuine concern.

Seeing Nutsy Pelosi chimp out on the floor was worth it. Trump should post a picture of that giant hammer in the fireplace cooking a hot dog over it.

And when Schumer is glaring at the camera over his reading glasses with those beady eyes delivering one of his nasal lectures, that is a sign that the GOP did something right.

Mitch and the boys can still screw it up though.

My few remaining liberal friends on Facebook are besides themselves with rage.

That was Obamacare. This is Trumpcare. The GOP owns it this time.

Yep, this is huge mistake by Trump and the Republicans. Now, when Obamacare/Trumpcare fails, it will be pinned 100% on the Republicans. Universal Healthcare, here we come.

It's not a real repeal. It's replacing one train wreck with another.

Rush is an idiot. The 30% surcharge is far worse than than what was in the original ACA.

Is the NYT lyin’ again?

That's one of those "Did you quit beating your wife?" questions. I believe the correct word is not "again" but "still". "Again" suggests that they took a break.
