Republicans Get Their Health Bill. But It May Cost Them.
New York Times ^ | May 4, 2017 | By JENNIFER STEINHAUER

In voting to repeal President Barack Obama’s signature health care law, House Republicans finally delivered on a key Trump administration goal and on a campaign promise that they have made for the better part of a decade — but at a potentially steep price.

But by leaning on members to vote for a bill that many fear will take too much health care from too many people, Mr. Ryan has exposed moderate Republicans to withering political attacks. This is especially true in the roughly two dozen districts where Hillary Clinton prevailed, but it is also the case in places where the Affordable Care Act’s popularity has been increasing.

“If you’re in a very moderate-to-Democratic district — yeah,” said Representative Peter T. King, Republican of New York, conceding the potential risk to Republicans.

Mr. Schumer gave a preview of the Democratic blitz facing House Republicans — who will return to their districts for a week off to gauge voters’ reactions — describing the measure as a “breathtakingly irresponsible piece of legislation that would endanger the health of tens of millions of Americans.”

Republicans are bracing for those kinds of encounters. “They’re not going to be less angry,” said Representative Bill Huizenga of Michigan, referring to the several town hall meetings he has held with angry voters. “But what I am also hearing back home is that most people expect us to do something and I’ve been saying I want to do this since 2009. So this would not be a surprise for anyone who voted for me.”

The GOP owns it this time.

I like the GOP's hand. I just hope they learn from Trump how to slog it out and play it correctly - - unlike the last several years.

It needs to be up and running well before the elections to overcome media propaganda.
Not likely- so it’s a propaganda war the media will win for the Dems.

But Trump frequently overcomes the media’s propaganda.

In voting to repeal President Barack Obama’s signature health care law,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They did not vote to repeal Obamacare, they voted to modify Obamacare.
Yeah, they took out the parts people actually liked.
There are no easy answers here, but so far so good.
I’m still pretty ticked off about being required to buy something.
They have over-promised a losing hand and it's going to cost them.
I disagree. They removed the mandate to buy insurance. Without that it’s not Obamacare.
It cost me full coverage, my doctor quit/retired early, I am paying 1400 a month for an individual/family plan which requires me to pay the deductable for each family member before the family plan kicks in.. that 76000 out of pocket before the insurance covers at 70%. .. I am going back to using the VA and going to pay cash for the family. Its cheaper
They moved the fine, the mandate remains in the law and that law is still Obamacare.
Oh yeah, once premiums and deductibles start going down, people are REALLY going to be pissed.
Throw me in that briar patch.
I think we are all screwed again. All this lip service to the benefits of competition. Bull spit! It is a racket and a monopoly.
Total NYT-BS. If Obamacare was allowed to continue, it would have bankrupt the country. The Democrats OWN that failure.
That’s not what they were saying on FBN. What do you mean by “moved the fine” anyway? To where , Argentina?
Instead of paying the IRS for not having coverage, you will pay the insurance companies a 30% penalty for any lapse over 63 days for one year. That will be more money for most people.
Ryan lied to voters in 2016 and he is lying now. ObamaCare has NOT been repealed only tweeked a little. They more then tripled the money from taxpayers for pre-existing conditions.
Which is to prevent people from cancelling coverage and reinstating it when they get sick. That’s not the same as a mandate at all. It’s a small compensation for the insurance companies having to take people they know they will lose money on.
