Yeah, it would. Until it lost its effectiveness after 6 months - a year. Then you will be SOL without a Plan B.

Bleach is heavy and hard to carry if you have to,go mobile
And hunting for water requires mobility
Look at what backpackers use - iodine
This pure stuff weighs an oz and purifies thousands of gallons of waters but you have to know how to use it ( can be toxic) and not be allergic to,iodine

Water poured through crushed charcoal contained within cotton fabric after boiling/cooling will filter contaminants.
