Another key is having an economy that doesn’t collapse on occasion. If they have a Recession, those ships get really expensive to operate.

The fact that China now has carriers makes a war over Taiwan much more dangerous. For the longest time their aircraft would come from one direction.

They are a long ways away from matching us. I am not even sure if they are trying.

I think China is mainly interested in having enough naval power to counter the U.S. Navy on their side of the pacific. They don’t need to send carrier groups to the Middle East or elsewhere around the world. But yes, they have Tawian in mind with this.

re: China/Taiwan

The old men are dead or dying. The young are doing business. The Chicaps are prevailing in the change

How ya goin’ to keep them down on the farm after they’ve got Daisey Maes?

You can’t

Length of about 315 metres and 70K displacement according to this article

You are saying that the Ford Class supercarrier is only 27 meters longer than this boat? I find that hard to believe.

US Navy should get some live fire practice sinking this thing.

Silent sub. SEAL team. Attach a large remotely detonated explosive device to the keel of the carrier. If (and ONLY if) a state of war with China comes about, detonate it. If at some point China ceases to be a war threat, or if the carrier is scheduled for drydocking, remotely release it. And have it marked in Russian in case it is discovered.

Why would it have catapults as well as a ski jump? Where is the advantage?

Some aircraft don't need the catapult but need the smaller boost?

Difference is the flight deck overhangs the actual ship a lot more on the Chinese carrier!!

It’s steamed powered so if you sink it’s oiler it’s dead in the water....this thing would last about three days in actual combat....we are the only ones who operate carriers at night!!!The night always belongs to us!!!

Real interesting. The Chinese can only put one plane at a time in the elevators and they barely fit at that. They have to be very careful since the back wheel has to lay exactly on the edge of the elevator so the nose can miss the wall.

Very slow operations to be sure.

Mere length is misleading. Having a 300 metre-long deck without a catapult isn’t enough to launch an aircraft weighing more than 30 tonnes.

I don’t think I’ve read anywhere it has a catapult.

Because their new JZY-01 carrier AWACS doesn’t have the raw power to make a ski jump take off

Helicopters are altitude (therefore radar range) limited.

I've never seen anything that indicates it has a catapult either but your picture in reply 2 looks like it has one. I'm assuming it's an error on the part of the artist.

Most likely an error - the artist has also shown AEW planes similar to the Hawkeye, which are unlikely to go aboard this carrier.
