Internal clashes broke out on Saturday between militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the town of Tabqa in Syrias northeastern Raqqa province, military sources reported.
This comes amidst continued advance by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against ISIS in Tabqa. The SDF has imposed a heavy siege on ISIS-held neighbourhoods inside the town.
A source in the Syrian Democratic Forces confirmed that internal fighting erupted among ISIS fighters in Tabqa, after some of them wanted to surrender due to the SDF siege on the town.
As a result of the fighting and the siege on the ISIS terrorists inside the city of Tabqa, the Syrian Democratic Forces is witnessing that some of the Daesh [ISIS members] want to surrender themselves to the SDF, said Jesper Söder, a Swedish volunteer with the SDF forces.
But their commanders dont allow them to do this, so they are fighting among themselves inside Tabqa, the source said.
According to the SDF member, a number of ISIS militants have been killed by their own in Tabqa city on Saturday.
Several Daesh [fighters] have been killed by their own inside of the city, Söder reported.
The information could not be verified by other sources.
This is a sign the rumors were correct.
Another on FR had suggested to me privately that this might be an element of locals who were conscripted or volunteered to joing ISIS and learned to regret it.
ISIS in Tabqa has fought fiercely to defend it. I suspect some of the top leadership was here. I came to that conclusion because of the training facilities near the dam.
This is a good sign. Anything to end this quicker and with less loss of life by the coalition (opposing ISIS) is a good thing.
Tabqa is just part of the battle at ISIS's headquarters in Raqqa. But it shows ISIS is loosing heavily.
Tabqa/Raqqa Ping
ISIS in Syria is made up of about 33% true believers and 66% Sunni tribes.
The tribes signed up for power and war spoils. Not a suicide mission.
Apostates want to surrender. They are apostates because they want to give it up. A Moslem dies in the fight against infidels. One who does not want to die fighting the infidel is ipso facto apostate and deserving of the sort of death that closes the gates of Paradise to them.
Which ones are lord McCain’s rebels?
Motivational reasoning... more drastic than the mere decimation (10% reduction) used by the Romans in the waning days of the Roman Empire.
There have been several reports of unpleasant executions of retreating fighters in the past for exactly the reasons you said. Word gets around.
That is the mindset of the Jihadi’s.
That which has been seen cannot be unseen.
Locals and some “true believers” have seen a lot of what Islamist Terrorists really are. Some are disillusioned.
First instinct? Kill em all.
But it is no my call, only the Kurds and Arabs living there can judge the risk of not eliminating them all.
Kurds are not all Muslim, especially those in Northern Syria. All Arabs are not the same, many in Northern Syria have seen what ISIS Terrorists are and totally reject it.
So, this is a good sign.
Bump
Lord McCain owns them all. May it always haunt him.
He is vermin.
The Jihadi’s (ISIS and the Arab militias that McCain & Obozo hired to bring down Assad.)
SDF, YPG, YPJ never sought to overthrow Assad (Assad is bad guy but overthrow would bring worse to Syria).
I think Trump understands this. But Iran is a part of the mix. And a serious threat to Israel.
The Kurds are very good fighters and very motivated
Absolutely.
And I have learned that the Syrian Kurds are very good people. Have come to know some of them very well over the past 3 years.
Several Daesh [fighters] have been killed by their own inside of the city....
***
Gee, what a shame.
traitorous coward is more accurate
No, we all agree. Quickest possible end to ISIS.
which ones?
I was referring to McShamey
Vermin wouldn’t associate with the likes of him
This has always been typical of real siege warfare. The human shields get hurt the most when the supply lines are really cut because the fighters come first.
The Reds decimated (classic definition) their own ranks during the Civil War for units that lost a battle or that retreated. I can’t stand when that word is used to mean “destroyed.” It shows the lack of education that infuses our society due to several generations of federal and union control of the public schools. It also shows the uselessness of English dictionaries since the Webster’s 2nd International.
I must confess, that for many years I myself thought it meant to move one decimal point to the right, i.e., reduce TO 10% (90% attrition) rather than to reduce BY 10%.
I suppose it was because of the way I heard the word used through the years... carelessly. Which, goes to prove your point.
Well anyway, I take consolation in the fact that I always get the usage of effect and affect right, LOL.
