Funny stuff. Rather made up false reports to disparage Bush¨s
service but never served himself. Probably got a dew Purple Hearts from John Kerry.

This whole thing's as strange a low flying ice cloud hanging over a west Texas prairie dog village on Easter morning.
Oh yeah, and what's the frequency Kenneth?

I hope this story turns out to be TRUE, as it’s long past time to finally put lying Dan Rather out to pasture.

My son barely made it through boot camp at Parris Island. He was actually in the running for “Honor Graduate” of his platoon, but fell out during the final test - The Crucible. Extremely hot weather and low blood sodium landed him in the hospital. He wrote home saying he might not make it, but it didn’t matter. He could find other ways to serve. Said he didn’t need a badge on his shoulder to have honor, he had that before he went.
He fell back into a later class and repeated the exercise a week or two later. Success. Not bad for a 125 pound kid humping a load far too heavy for his frame. He then became a Marine because he earned it.
He always seemed to be a cut above some of the other Marines I’ve encountered. It wasn’t just a job for him. Sadly, he didn’t make it more than a few months in Iraq. He was, is, and will always be a real Marine. Not like these fakers.

I remember the photos. At my time, they were just the front of a blues jacket, no back. Take the photos early in boot camp, why if you ever see a real collection, everyone has a “deer in the headlights” look. You are still in a bit of shock. Rather’s shiite eating grin is way out of place.

In “Stolen Valor” B.G. Burkett and Glenna Whitley exposed Rather whose colleagues at CBS sometimes referred to him as “an old Marine” or “ex-Marine.” Rather entered the Marine Corps in January 1954, was physically or emotionally unable to complete recruit training, and was discharged in May 1954 as being “medically unfit.”
