President Trump said Friday that undocumented immigrants who were brought illegally to the U.S. as children should "rest easy" and not fear deportation under his administration's efforts to ramp up immigration enforcement.
The president told The Associated Press in an interview that his calls to crack down on illegal immigration are focused primarily on removing criminals from the U.S. and are not geared toward the so-called Dreamers.
Trump's comments came on the heels of a lawsuit filed Tuesday alleging that a recipient of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which allows undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children to remain in the country, was deported to Mexico.
The Department of Homeland Security said that the individual, 23-year-old Juan Manuel Montes, had originally left the country on his own. Montes said he was forced out.
Trump said that the case is "a little different than the Dreamer case," though he did not specify what he meant by that or how it was different.

“President Trump said Friday that undocumented immigrants who were brought illegally to the U.S. as children should “rest easy” and not fear deportation under his administration’s efforts to ramp up immigration enforcement.”
Not winning. In fact, losing.
I want the illegals, including the involuntaries to dread Trump.
I don’t want illegal aliens to “rest easy”. No amnesty. I thought this was Trump’s core issue. Maybe not.
George and Jeb are resting mighty comfortably as well, I’m sure.
For a peek of the future, read Ann Coulter’s ‘Adios America’.
Too bad. I don’t want them to rest easy. I want them to worry themselves right back to wherever they came from.
No. They are illegal. They are freeloaders, even if they did not initially choose to be freeeloaders and very expensive freeloaders at that. They can be given the chance to apply for legal immigration once back in the home country ignoring their previous lawbreaking status as illegals, but they should not be allowed to stay That kind of “compassion” would open prison doors if it could..
That’s my thought. For the people who got in under Obama’s program - okay, but are they issuing new applications for more people?
Who cares whether they were briught up here? If I am based in Japan on business and have my family there, when I need to go home so do my kiddos. Neither they nor I get to claim Japanese citizenship—we need to go home. And we all would have been there legally, not stealing likely 6 figures in government provided services through fraud while in the country.
Who ever thought Trump might do that?
Well, zeestephen did, in dozens of FR posts and comments, in 2015, before the GOP presidential primaries started.
By the way, I voted for Trump, because I always support the most “Conservative” candidate who has some chance at winning the election.
“I thought this was Trumps core issue. Maybe not.”
The prospect for Trump to stop and even reverse the illegal invasion was THE reason he moved smartly ahead during the campaign in the first place.
Even worse, he is walkie in the opposite direction from which he promised!
And the Trump-bashers here will wax hysterical about it...
They should all be deported—and that is what he ran on.
illegals, dreamers included- are costing this country between $400 BILLION DOLLARS and $600 BILLION DOLLARS
a report from many years ago- several reports actually- estimated the cost back then to be between $400 BILLION DOLLARS and $600 BILLION DOLLARS when everything was taken into consideration (ie: Prison incarcerations at $145 PER DAY PER INMATE- the cost of lawyers to defend these criminal- the cost to the victims families and counseling etc- the money lost when an American citizen is murdered or killed by a drunk illegal- Money send over the border without paying taxes- drugs brought in and the costs associated with that- etc etc etc)
Some had the estimates even higher- and its likely quite a bit higher than $600 BILLION DOLLARS annually today
You brought out several costs that dreamers are incurring in our country, and there are many more- The cost per year for illegals is astronomical-
IF dreamers wish to stay- then they need to get in line, apply, and wait their turn while foregoing financial aid while they are here- and paying taxes on any money they earn-
Our country can’t find money for our nation’s most vulnerable legal citizens, seniors, disabled and veterans, but by golly we can find hundreds of billions of dollars every year for CRIMINALS?
Candidate Trump correctly said it was illegal for Obama to do this. It has no basis in law.
It is still illegal, even if Trump keeps doing it.
No one but the parents are responsible for them being illegal aliens.
Deport them all.
Continuing to hand out work permits and permission to stay undermines all other enforcement efforts.
I forget where I read that. I think it was CTH? He went to have lunch with his girlfriend and got busted on the way back.
Since when does the INS toss people over the border w/o their permission????? If they did the left would have had endless stories 24/7 all over the place them.
Amnesty is amnesty.
It’s wrong.
Period.
The supreme courts going to overrule it in a couple of months. Again Trumps position on DACA appears to be pure politics. Start going against and the media has a very good campaign lined up to destroy all our efforts against illegal immigration.
I agree. He’s going to let the Supreme Court end it legally. Then they have all the names and ICE follows the Rule of Law and rounds them all up without having to try each case separately for deportation. The Supreme Court just did it in one sweep with a ruling that they are illegals and DACA is illegal, which will authorize deportation of all DACA participants. Also then no one can blame Trump for their deportation he’s just following the law.
