GOP under pressure as tax reform deadline slips
The Hill ^ | April 20, 2017 | Naomi Jagoda

With the deadline for tax reform slipping, some prominent conservatives are pressing President Trump and congressional Republicans to change course.

Trump and the GOP have been pushing forward with efforts to make tax changes to both the individual and corporate tax systems in a single bill, with a goal of enacting them by August.

But the late summer target looks increasingly unlikely, with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin admitting this week that the timeline has become “highly aggressive to not realistic.”

With Republicans are desperate to notch a big legislative win under Trump, several voices in the conservative world are pushing for a new approach.

Once again, as with ObamaCare repeal, despite having 8 years the GOPers in the Congress did not have something ready to go on day 1.

You really think they didn’t have something ready. They just don’t want that uppity outsider Trump having a victory. I sense that the GOPe would rather let the party burn than have Trump in charge.

“comprehensive” is an indicator that they’re not serious.

If corporate taxes are eased first, the disgusting bought-and-paid-for HOR Republicans will never get to reforming the tax code for the little guy.

Here’s what I think is happening.

After Trump won the election, certain key establishment leaders decided to make sure his agenda doesn’t happen.

This means legislatively.

And there are likely several republicans participating who claim to be “conservative” or “freedom caucus” or whatever.

I really think they didn’t have anything ready. They all thought Trump would lose. Lazy fat cat globalists in congress now have work to do. If they don’t get the job done, they need to be called out and replaced ASAP.

If the “reform” includes a VAT and a carbon tax as rumored, I hope they never meet the deadline.

Kill the entire tax code, implement 15% flat tax across the board with no deductions, all new spending bills spend against what is taken in. Be done with this nonsense!

DOes anyone here actually believe that the ruling class will allow any legislation that would give the Subjects some of their hard earned money back, leading to their desire to have even more Freedom???

I have a real nice Bridge down here in Long Beach for sale.

I believe we’re going to be seeing a lot of attempts in the near future to “condition” us to accept a VAT. I would, if they ABOLISHED the income tax. One or the other, but not both.

And any carbon tax would just be a product of the #uniparty.

Come to think of it, so would a VAT (assuming they did not eliminate the income tax at the same time).

...so all of this is President Trump's fault...that the healthcare bill didn't pass, that the tax bill isn't ready to go...

There are some 10 positions yet to be filled in the Trump Cabinet, but Congress is only working 8 days this month...

There are 2 positions waiting for Congress for A.G. Sessions to fill, but Congress is only working 8 days this month...

Yes President Trump pulled the healthcare bill, he gave the rope to Paul Ryan and Ryan hung himself...President Trump was in Wisconsin the other day, where was Ryan, oh off to the ‘elite’ people in Europe...

Where has President Trump been since Congress has been ‘out’...in the White House working, in Florida working, hosting people from Foreign Countries...

Where is V.P. Pence, on a fact finding tour of the Asian countries, talking to our Foreign Allies...

Now what was that again you were saying about how come the ‘tax plan’ isn't getting anywhere??? Where is Congress in April...oh yeah I forgot they are only working 8 DAYS this month...

GO.PRESIDENT TRUMP. GO!!! MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!

“GOP, Republican” are obsolete political terms imo, nothing more than different names for the conservative front end of the corrupt Washington cartel.

Drain the swamp! Drain the swamp!

Remember in November ’18.

One piece of getting some sort of immediate "tax reform" done is reducing corporate taxes to 15%. The lost revenue opportunity would be offset by companies coming back to the US and paying US taxes (at 15%).

This will show a sign of good faith and progress, and maybe cool down the media somewhat.

The more complex pieces would be resolved after the Obamacare repeal as Trump has been suggesting.

Whatever tax reform is passed, it MUST NOT INCLUDE exempting a larger percentage of the population from paying ANY income tax. Long ago, when I first staring working after school, I didn’t earn a ton of money but did pay income taxes. It wasn’t much tax (maybe 2% of income) but I was a taxpayer. That was before the process of gradual changes that resulted in more and more people paying ZERO taxes. People who cover ZERO costs of government have no problem voting for candidates who promise to have government increase “free” give aways for them.

Not necessarily. People vote based on their personal tax consequences.

WE DID. We voted to repeal Obamacare and end the mandate, to stop recreational war-mongering with Trump's expert negotiating skills, and to simplify and make fair the tax code. A lot of other promises, Trump is accomplishing by (1)executive order and (2) because General (?) Kelly and AG Sessions are such stellar choices. But anything we voted for the bought-and-paid for HOR 'pubs to do? FORGET IT!

I wasn't amused when President Trump blamed the Freedom Caucus because Ryan Care didn't pass. To many of us Deplorables, that made them the Heroes. That's when a lot of us got worried that Ryan and some other sellouts are getting way too much influence on President Trump's dealing with legislation and policy.
