you got that right....a good friend of mine graduated from the school and he was proud about his school being tougher academically then the ivy league schools. he said that most people could not handle the work load and the stress being a student there.
It’s strange, but that one, and the Popps Ferry, the I-110, etc, local bridges don’t bother me. (It only got me that night because I’d already faced down the Mobile series of bridges and was really really tired). Bridges that aren’t divided in the middle and aren’t narrow don’t bother me, like the new Ocean Springs bridge. But old, narrow bridges, bridges that are divided in the middle, or have low sides that let me easily see the water, and especially bridges which have a steep incline/decline, I just can’t do.
My husband has driven everywhere, in all conditions, and is an intrepid (and very good, he taught me when we married) driver, and even he gets a little antsy on some bridges, like Huey P Long, amd that Sunshine Skyway or whatever it’s called, in Florida. But to him, these things are a challenge to be defeated. I wish I could feel that way about it.
One of my captains in Korea my second time had a doctorate in math from there and went on to a West Point professorship.
What Mudd needs to do is to tighten their admission requirements enough that only students who can actually succeed there get accepted. Even if it results in few or no minority students.
Of course, they would be sued into bankruptcy over "discrimination".
The issue is pervasive. The most selective colleges accept minorities who might have made it at second or third-tier schools, but who are unable to compete at the top. This leaves the second tier schools with not enough minority applicants who could actually make it there, and so on down the line.
Wow, you are really making my day here :D I’ve seen a video of some bridge, I think it was in Washington State or somewhere in that area, that just collapsed, and there was a car with a dog in it on it (the dog made it ok, I was relieved to learn).
So, in my limited anecdote - a 90% washout rate for women, vs 70% for men.
IMO - and with no scientific evidence, or even a hint of how the female psyche works..... I think that most of the women in the class couldn't handle being "average". Once the first semester was over, and all of the people who didn't belong in engineering to start with had quickly departed, those who were left were all fairly sharp, regardless of which bathroom they used.
As an engineer I'm sure that you know this, pulling a "B" average in engineering courses is pretty darned good. I took a few required classes where I got a 'C', and got the heck out. (Solid State Physics? Phew.) However, for the women in my EE classes who had been at the top of the school with Straight A's for all their lives, they couldn't handle the sudden mediocrity. "C's" weren't good enough, they let stress eat them up, and they usually would wind up headed for easier disciplines.
Also, FWIW, most of the engineering washouts - across the board, all genders and disciplines - wound up in either "Business" or "Education". I think this probably says something, but I'm not sure what.
“...he said that most people could not handle the work load and the stress being a student there.”
I graduated from a tough engineering school. We had a suicide every year. I’m guessing that was the cause of death of the student in their room at this college. It was tough to go from getting straight A’s to often-times lousy grades.
And to think my husband tells me don’t be a goose, this would never happen to me!
Well, this particular bridge didn’t collapse because of poor engineering, but because of the the [female, minority] truck driver did not:
1. READ WEIGHT LIMIT SIGN FOR BRIDGE
2. READ HEIGHT RESTRICTION SIGN FOR BRIDGE
3. DID NOT KNOW HOW TALL HER TRAILER WAS
4. DID NOT KNOW HOW MUCH HER VEHICLE WEIGHED
5. ALL OF THE ABOVE
Answer: 5

Also, there was a ‘NO TRUCKS’ sign........................
I was in Houston recently with husband, we saw something similar. It was male, Hispanic driving truck, didn’t pay any attention to posted height limit on overpass, and caused traffic back-up for miles.
Simply because today’s students feel insulted probably means that they were told the truth or their Leftist asses weren’t kissed long enough.
A less charitable description would be "fraud."
Yeah, pretty much. There was no “affirmative admission” in my physics program back in the dark ages. In my class, at least, we all graduated. But there were only a dozen of us, and they didn’t let anybody in who wasn’t highly likely to graduate.
I’ll bet their alumni is steaming - there will be hell to pay for the administration, doncha know??
Yeah! I want to go to Harveys school!
Me.
Professor Mudd convening class....
Don’t return their money.
Probably blamed Trump.
