I dont want to sound like the Baghdad Bob of the 2018 election cycle, but the special election in Georgias 6th congressional district was yet another reminder that despite the mainstream medias relentless narrative attempting to turn the early days of the Trump administration into a story of GOP rout, reality has stubbornly refused to cooperate with them.
Dont get me wrongthe GOP is absolutely facing headwinds in 2018. And theres a lot of political ground left to cover in November. Id certainly rather be in a position of winning districts by increasing margins rather than decreasing ones. Could the GOP lose the House?Absolutely. But, as I wrote in my recent analysis of the 2018 election cycle, the Senate is not going to go Democratic in this political environmentor even anything close to it.
GA-06 is according to both the Cook PVI and 538.com the most Democratic-leaning seat in GA held by a Republican. There are 46 districts held by the GOP that are more Democratic than this one according to the 538 model. On the surface that would seem alarming for the GOP since the Democrats need win only 25 more seats to get a majority. But most of these are only very narrowly closer than GA-06. And very few of them will be open seats, as this one was. Given the broader context of the race, the political handicappers had already rated this race as a toss-up. The vast majority of allegedly vulnerable GOP seats are rated as no worse than GOP leans.
And GOP candidates look to have won overall by a couple of percent in an election in which they were badly outspent and spent most of their time attacking each other while Ossoff got slobberly wet kisses from the media and a largely free ride from his GOP opponents. Ossoff got tons of love and money from Hollywood, raising and spending well more than $8 million.
Regardless of what happens in the June runoff, Democrats are not going to bottle that same level of energy and attention and put it in 435 districts in November. They needed a victory and they didnt get it. And at the end of the day, they didnt even get that close, finishing with 48.1% of the vote.
Ossoffs voters were certainly energized. Volunteers came from all over the country and 95% of his money came from outside the district. He took a staggering 71% of the early vote, showing that the most passionate Democrats, the same ones screaming at the GOP town halls, are definitely motivated. But there just dont seem to be enough of them right now to swing the number of elections they need to win. And In Karen Handel the GOP picked probably the strongest candidate to go up against Ossoff in the general election.
As I wrote in my piece on 2018, the Georgia special election was a must-win for the Democrats if they wanted to show they had real political momentum on their side and a clear path to retake the House majority. They didnt get there tonight. The reports of the electoral death of the GOP continue to be greatly exaggerated.
He lost with 1% less a loss than Hillary. So with 8+ Million focused on a single House District, the electorate is still unwilling to vote Democrat.
I just sent the link to this article to our local Faux News station.
My message noted, when USALies today lies again about this election that is expected.
However, when my local Faux station runs this story as news, they are into fake news again.
I would send out a word of serious caution to the GOP RNC. like right now!!! IMHO early voting stinks...it is open and ripe for fraud which all criminal Democrats use in every election. Hint: those first “early votes” came from DeKalb county...you figure out the rest. Ms. Ronny Romney McDaniel, pay heed....you and folks are asleep at the wheel!!!
What’s with ALL the friggin republicans running? Can’t they get their 5h!t together? (Rhetorical question....obviously can’t )
Ossof underperformed Hillary by about half a percent in the district.
I'm arriving at the conclusion that ROI is a foreign concept to them. Of course, there is also the fact that if you don't pay then you don't get to play.
The GOP is facing headwinds. Not! And definitely not in GA. Karen Handel will be a good rep. Its just too bad she didn’t get Chambliss Senate seat instead of David Purdue.
Does someone here know the facts about the Republicans in the race. Who is actually conservative. Was their an establishment favorite. What is “the skinny” on Handle and can she be a tough enough candidate and campaigner to prevail in the run-off? Will she be conservative if she gets to D.C.?
A sample of the inane/insane fake news re this election is shown below:
Democrat Jon Ossoff Is Gaining Ground in Georgia Special Election to Replace Tom Price

The collapse of Republican efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare was bad news for Donald Trumps HHS secretary, Tom Price, who will have to deal with bitter recriminations between his old friends in the House and his new boss in the White House.
But you know what would make Price feel a whole lot worse? Being replaced in the House by a Democrat.
For the first time, Democratic hopes of picking off this seat, once occupied by Senator Johnny Isakson, and before that by Newt Gingrich, are beginning to look like something more than wishful thinking. With the first round of the jungle primary fast approaching on April 18, Democratic candidate (and former congressional staffer) Jon Ossoff is no longer just an incredibly well-funded neophyte likely to make a runoff against the survivor of an internecine battle between Republicans. Hes now clearly competitive in the runoff as well as the first round.

Gianforte is backed by GOA. He is a true conservative in other respects as well.
If they could have won this seat, it still wouldnt tip the balance in the House overall, or have any meaningful impact. Is Trump Derangement Syndrome so strong, that they will pay any price, bear any burden, for any so called moral victory they can claim against Trump??
The media certainly play this up as a referendum on Trump.
...
For the Left this is a war on Trump. War is expensive and they are being driven by emotion.
Can someone please post the pro-trump black dude video laughing hysterically when Trump won? I need a darn good laugh!!

If true, would love to see the proof. If there's proof, would love to see it out in the news. It would perpetuate the low grade theme that even liberals know: more often than not, they can't win unless by cheating or fraud.
LOL. I stopped reading there.

Why? The GOP is facing headwinds, not insurmountable, but they are there.
1) An overtly hostile media environment that attempts to downplay any Trump and/or GOP success and magnify any event that can be used magnify the leftist narrative
2) Angry and motivated leftist activists who are more than willing to both throw serious money into defeating the GOP
3) Other angry and motivated leftist activists who routinely attempt to intimidate and silence any challenges to their views in Hollywood, media, and academia
4) An entrenched GOP establishment that attempts to delay any practical or ideological challenges to their power
5) An equally entrenched bureaucracy that fights tooth and nail against surrendering any control back to either the states or elected officials
The headwinds are there, they are not insurmountable, but they are there.
We will gain Senate seats.
Why are people enamored with the ‘early vote’, it doesn’t count more then the regular vote!
The ‘early vote” also didn’t take into account that Jerkoff mislead everyone by not revealing he lived OUTSIDE the district.
#FakeCandidate
If true, I hope that the Republicans have someone willing to file appropriate legal challenges.
I’m in the district and I’ve been bombarded with adds for the last two to three months.
Not a single one of the Republican Candidates mentioned the President, much less solidarity with his policies. At one point Grey said in an add that “he is 100% behind the Presidents policies as stated in his state of the union speech”. It was a very odd parcing of words that caught my attention. Then the Club For Growth came out and supported him and that was his death kiss.
I have seen people on here call Handel (never-Trump) and that very well could be accurate. I am not terribly familiar with her statements during the 2016 campaign.
Handel was the front runner because she has been elected to hold office successfully by the 6th district a few times. Little Douchenozzle Ossoff still has 5 million left. His only hope is to attack the Republican. 5 million in negative adds against Handel will be useless. The district already knows her.
