I dont want to sound like the Baghdad Bob of the 2018 election cycle, but the special election in Georgias 6th congressional district was yet another reminder that despite the mainstream medias relentless narrative attempting to turn the early days of the Trump administration into a story of GOP rout, reality has stubbornly refused to cooperate with them.
Dont get me wrongthe GOP is absolutely facing headwinds in 2018. And theres a lot of political ground left to cover in November. Id certainly rather be in a position of winning districts by increasing margins rather than decreasing ones. Could the GOP lose the House?Absolutely. But, as I wrote in my recent analysis of the 2018 election cycle, the Senate is not going to go Democratic in this political environmentor even anything close to it.
GA-06 is according to both the Cook PVI and 538.com the most Democratic-leaning seat in GA held by a Republican. There are 46 districts held by the GOP that are more Democratic than this one according to the 538 model. On the surface that would seem alarming for the GOP since the Democrats need win only 25 more seats to get a majority. But most of these are only very narrowly closer than GA-06. And very few of them will be open seats, as this one was. Given the broader context of the race, the political handicappers had already rated this race as a toss-up. The vast majority of allegedly vulnerable GOP seats are rated as no worse than GOP leans.
And GOP candidates look to have won overall by a couple of percent in an election in which they were badly outspent and spent most of their time attacking each other while Ossoff got slobberly wet kisses from the media and a largely free ride from his GOP opponents. Ossoff got tons of love and money from Hollywood, raising and spending well more than $8 million.
Regardless of what happens in the June runoff, Democrats are not going to bottle that same level of energy and attention and put it in 435 districts in November. They needed a victory and they didnt get it. And at the end of the day, they didnt even get that close, finishing with 48.1% of the vote.
Ossoffs voters were certainly energized. Volunteers came from all over the country and 95% of his money came from outside the district. He took a staggering 71% of the early vote, showing that the most passionate Democrats, the same ones screaming at the GOP town halls, are definitely motivated. But there just dont seem to be enough of them right now to swing the number of elections they need to win. And In Karen Handel the GOP picked probably the strongest candidate to go up against Ossoff in the general election.
As I wrote in my piece on 2018, the Georgia special election was a must-win for the Democrats if they wanted to show they had real political momentum on their side and a clear path to retake the House majority. They didnt get there tonight. The reports of the electoral death of the GOP continue to be greatly exaggerated.
There is always a state of denial before a demise.
LOL. I stopped reading there.
Could the GOP lose the House?Absolutely.
According to some Republicans, Ossof doesn’t even live in Georgia, he lives in Washington DC. Ossof started talking about living with his girlfriend in GA because he doesn’t have a GA address of his own, meaning he is ineligible to run for Congress in GA. The info about him not living in the district he wants to represent is correct, but the bigger issue IMO is that he probably doesn’t even live in the state.
Dems spent $10,000,000 to get a run off in a seat they cannot hold. Pyrrhic victory at best for them
Really stupid tactics by the Dems. Even if they manage to lie their way into office by having their candidate campaigning as if he were a “Moderate Republican”, they will never hold this seat in 2018.
Just another example how the Dems are image over substance. Spent money they cannot afford to try and score a cheap PR victory that would be absolutely meaningless in the bigger picture.
First: Dems have no morals to win a victory with;
Second: I knew that libs from up north, along with 0bamaites had infiltrated the district, but I'm shocked to the extent the average IQ level has been lowered; Not too long ago this was the reddest district in The Country.
Third: Eight Million Dollars from outside of Georgia poured into this twerp's race. Ads at least every 15 minutes spreading his lying propaganda. Are they sending more money for the runoff?
Fourth: I'm shocked that the liberal twerp isn't required to be a resident of the district to run.
“He took a staggering 71% of the early vote”
Early vote = people who don’t work. Workers have to wait until the end of the day to vote.
I googled the election and the first 10 articles did not say who won. It was all about the Demicrat, the Party, the mandate against Trump. Who won? It is astonishing with the money and the onslaught of pro Democrat news that this guy didn’t win with so many GOPers people splitting the field.
Yep. 48% is what it always is. *A loss*
They’re truly clutching at straws on this one. First off, we’re talking about a lousy congressional seat which compared to the hundreds of elections they’ve lost since the Immaculation, is like alka-seltzer under Niagara.
Further, Ossof (or, as Rush likes to pronounce it “Assoff” you know, as in ‘laughing my’) doesn’t stand a chance in the runoff since all attention will be brought to bear against him and he will be viciously eviscerated for the loser he truly is.
Ossoff got tons of love and money from Hollywood, raising and spending well more than $8 million.
...
If I were a Big Money Rat Donor, I’d be tired of losing by now.
There is history here. There was some whiner dem who lived in the DC area who was elected to the house a few times in Fl providing his mother in laws address or some such. Cannot recall his name but he was one of the constant whiners of how Billy Boy was being railroaded and then continued when Bush II was president.
Eleven of 18 were republicans. How were the other six split?
I can’t believe that the liberals poured $8 million into a single special election, for a single congressional seat in Georgia.
If they could have won this seat, it still wouldn’t tip the balance in the House overall, or have any meaningful impact. Is Trump Derangement Syndrome so strong, that they will pay any price, bear any burden, for any so called “moral victory” they can claim against Trump??
The media certainly play this up as a referendum on Trump.
His biggest financial contributors were from (in this order);
1. CA
2. NY
3. Mass
4. GA
You forget Trumps ‘losses ...
Can someone please post the pro-trump black dude video laughing hysterically when Trump won? I need a darn good laugh!!!

B/C Ossoff went full Allah-is-Great Muslimite. I guess Georgians are anxiously awaiting Ossoff's plans to mandate tax-funded clitorecotomies on little Georgian schoolgirls.
Clitorectomy is a mandated Muslim practice.
REFERENCE---U.S. based pediatrician and fellow at the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Hatem Al Haj Elhagaly, is listed as a member of the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America (AMJA).
This scholar issued a 2006 fatwa (an authoritative Islamic law ruling), saying that Islam sanctioned female genital mutilaion as better for the husband' (his sexual enjoyment).
He acknowledged that the majority of Islamic scholars regard it allowable and some consider it wajib (obligatory)........ but advised that because FGM is illegal in the West, it should not be performed.
And yet it is being performed....just recently in Tennessee on school girls brought to emergency rooms...performed without parents' knowledge or consent.
=============================================
Maybe Ossoff and Ellis can get the "tolerant and compassionate" unbigoted Meryl Streep and Michelle Obama to join in having their little girls get clitorectomies.
Maybe Rosie O'Donnell should have it done....just to show her camaraderie w/ Muslims banished by that bad old Trump.
