Boundary line drawn over N Korea nuke issue (China will not allow US to attack N Korea)
Global Times ^ | 4/18/17 | Unnamed Chinese Communist

Military action against North Korea is not an easy question to answer. If the blow is light, Pyongyang's military power would remain intact, and South Koreans could potentially face a revenge attack of some kind. One can only hope that Washington reaches out to Seoul for a second opinion. If the blow is heavy, the Chinese people will not allow their government to remain passive when the armies of the US and South Korea start a war and try to take down the Pyongyang regime. The Chinese will not let something like that happen, especially on the same land where the Chinese Volunteer Army once fought in the early 1950s. It is a land covered with the blood of Chinese soldiers who bravely fought in the early 1950s. Furthermore, if Pyongyang were to be taken by the allied armies of the US and South Korea, it would dramatically change the geopolitical situation in the Korean Peninsula.

China and USA are in kind of a death embrace on the trade issue now. Both would take pratfalls if they released one another.

The practical result would be that China would sit there and cuss if Trump took down Kim, but wouldn’t do anything more. Not if they didn’t want to trigger an internal revolt.

China doesn’t “allow” the USA to do anything regarding foreign policy.

Ping for TLR.

There it is, official word from the PLA to North Korea and the West. And it argues against every realistic way of stopping North Korea from continuing its nuclear weapons buildup. So Kim Jong Un is notified by the PLA that China will help him to keep his nukes. In diplomacy, China will happily continue with any agreements devised as stalling tactics against the West.

Obviously, the ChiComs want the U.S.A. out of the way of their plans for freer parts of Asia and Europe. We’ll see what Asians and Europeans want: freedom or occupation and enslavement by China, North Korea, Russia, Iran, Syria, etc.

So, if President Trump is willing to suffer some negative press reports

For 2 years now Trump has endured nothing but media lies and malicious slandering from the lying leftist enemy.

Few care what these SOBs say or think. There were exposed long ago.

Doughty one is totally correct that the government does not represent the Chinese people.

No big deal. Let China handle the minutia.

We can sit offshore (better money spent than on filth) and just shoot down any crap they launch.

No need for BS.

That’s not something I relish seeing happen. I’m not sure we really have a choice though.

This could have been avoided if Clinton, Bush, or Obama had had half a clue.

It pretty much sounds like a green light for targeted strikes on their nuclear/ballistic missile facilities (with a warning to consider the retaliation against ROK), while drawing a “red line” at invading and toppling the regime. Unfortunately, KJU is insane and his retaliation would probably require the USA/ROK to take out the few large artillery pieces that can reach Seoul, as well as short/medium range missiles if he used those. It could easily escalate further from there. Possibly China will warn KJU to limit the retaliation.

The China can was kicked down the road over and over.

At some point they will make a move too far to play the West and the West will say uh-uh China. We’re not being played now.

If the US does not launch an orderly and overwhelming invasion into North Korea when SHTF, however, China is going to get mobbed with refugees from the chaos and will probably just coldly shoot them down. I don’t think Trump wants that kind of humanitarian disaster.

“Sooner or later, we have to confront this situation, and it doesn’t get any easier from here.”

Unfortunately you are correct. Everyone before President Trump has kicked the can down the road. We have pretty much run out of road.

Sounds like they won’t allow the US and SK to take over NK. The Chicoms are filthy commie thugs but I think we can live with that. Destroy the NK nuke and ICBM capability, reduce their military overall if needed. China can have what is left.

The problematic part is they won’t allow us to “overthrow” the NK regime. But I say China can have what’s left. They can call it the same commie theme if they like.

Sounds like they would allow a “light blow” but they are warning NK may retaliate. I think we still need more Chicom cooperation.

It is a predictable response. They could scream at N. Koreans to behave, but their official stance may not change. The question is whether they would acquiesce when they are ‘overruled’ by U.S.. Global Times is an attack dog mouthpiece. It pushes the envelope as far as it can. Their tone has been vacillating between stalling tactics and dire warning of imminent destruction of N. Korea. It is their typical pattern that, after such a vacillation, the official stance returns to the old party line, believing that there would be no imminent military action from U.S.. There should be a response which can fundamentally change the strategic landscape of E. Asia against the interest of China, in order to drive home the message that sticking to status quo will also have consequences just as damaging.

Assuming everything we’ve heard about the NK regime is true (to be sure I don’t know if it is) I would say that the best option would be to bait Kim into striking first and then go in as hard as you can from all sides (bring in NATO, Japan and SK) and nuclear weapons should absolutely be on the table at that time. It makes little sense to wait until they’ve perfected the tech to turn their words to action.
