Rome (AFP) - Emma Morano, an Italian woman believed to have been the oldest person alive and the last survivor of the 19th century, died Saturday at the age of 117, Italian media reported...

"She had an extraordinary life, and we will always remember her strength to move forward in life," the mayor of Verbania was quoted as saying...

Morano's death means there is no one living known to have been born before 1900.

"I eat two eggs a day, and that's it. And cookies. But I do not eat much because I have no teeth," she said in her home at the time...

Her dietary regime has intrigued the medical and scientific worlds.

Morano’s death means there is no one living known to have been born before 1900.

People born in 1900 were born in the 19th century which ended Dec. 31, 1900.

And when I am interviewed at that age, I will proclaim:” don’t forget the gin and tonic!”

Jerry: Newman, did you book your New Year’s Eve party for December 31, 1999?

Newman: Yes

Jerry: Since there was no Year 0, that would make your party one year LATE, and therefore, extremely lame. (uh, no, Jerry it would be 1 year EARLY)

NEWMANIUM!!!!

I’m sure they mean: “the last person born in the 1800s”.

This is a notable event in the history of mankind.

And it will mostly go unnoticed.

There are 2 women alive who were born in the year 1900...one in Jamaica, one in Japan. The oldest American still alive was born in 1903.

Wikipedia's list of the 100 oldest people still alive has 92 women and 8 men. The oldest man still alive was born in 1903 (an Israeli).

I had a second cousin, once removed, whom I used to correspond with about genealogical matters (and met in person), who was born in Jan. 1900. If he were still alive he would be the oldest person on earth, but he died in 1990. He was a big supporter of Ronald Reagan and did not live to see Bill Clinton besmirching the Oval Office.
