How Trump’s Threat to Separate Mothers and Children Deterred Migration (READ THIS)
The Wire ^ | April 14, 2017 | Julia Edwards Ainsley, Reuters

President Donald Trump has won the first major battle in his war on illegal immigration and he did it without building his wall.

The victory was announced last week by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which released figures showing a 93% drop since December of parents and children caught trying to cross the Mexico border illegally.

In December, 16,000 parents and children were apprehended; in March, a month in which immigration typically increases because of temperate weather, the number was just over 1,100.

It was a remarkable decline – steeper than the 72% drop in overall apprehensions – but for eight DHS officials interviewed by Reuters it was not surprising.

Trump has spoken about the need to crack down broadly on all illegal immigrants. But, internally, according to the DHS officials familiar with the department’s strategy, his administration has focused on one immigrant group more than others: women with children, the fastest growing demographic of illegal immigrants. This planning has not been previously reported.

In the months since Trump‘s inauguration, DHS has rolled out a range of policies aimed at discouraging women from attempting to cross the border, including tougher initial hurdles for asylum claims and the threat of prosecuting parents if they hire smugglers to get their families across the border.

The department has also floated proposals such as separating women and children at the border....

Is there a limit on how much a person can buy?

I've seen no evidence of this.

Ok then.

We’ll just have to agree that we really do not know WHAT her ‘influence’ was.

Right, in a chain of command...

There you go.

Any one OUTSIDE of this 'chain' is unlikely to be 'commanded' to do anything.

May be a loss-leader; may not be.

Milk purchases tend to be self-limiting; it’s bulky to store and has a relatively short shelf-life.

My nearest Aldi store has milk for $1.04 per gallon; no posted limit.

And it didn’t cost a dime.

Better than that, we are at least getting some bang for the buck for all the agencies that should have been doing their duty for all these years...

I say above not casting blame on the individuals or the agencies, I am BLAMING the Administration(s) that was in power during the ‘rest period’.

Operation Wetback 1954, was last serious attempt to control illegal immigration.

Even ‘dream’ of using a name like that today and you will be in heap big pile of dung.

There is an ad for Subway today (for Italian Subs) with the Italian ‘stoop’ family, lot of yelling and treating the son(?) for buying the sandwich like he had just cured cancer.

Even has the mother (leaning out window) and calling to her husband(??) to see what ‘good’ the kid had done.

I personally have no problem with the ad, nor the dumb depictions of Irish on and around 17 Mar BUT I just wonder what the reaction would be if the ‘stoop family’ were Black and Popeyes Chicken were the product.

ALSO

Washington Nationals have ended up with Adam Eaton and the announcers are pushing the name ‘Mighty Mouse’ on him, encouraging fans to wear mouse ears etc...

I only bring this up as I remember Howard Cosells career taking a BIG DIP, for referring to a Redskin end as ‘look at that monkey go’ — at the time the Redskins had 3 very fast and very small ends - called the ‘Smurfs’....Oh yes, the 3 were Black.....

I used it this week on a blowhard Texan. Old joke.

A Texan is a wetback that started to Oklahoma and ran out of money.
