U.S. forces have dropped what is known as the "mother of all bombs" in Afghanistan. The device is the largest non-nuclear device in the Air Force arsenal, Fox News' Jennifer Griffin reported. It was dropped in Nangarhar Province, an eastern area near the Pakistan border. It's the first time the 21,000-pound ordnance has been used in combat, said Griffin. The device, developed in 2003 by the U.S. Air Force, is called the M.O.A.B, short for Massive Ordnance Air Blast. It's often referred to as the "mother of all bombs." Watch the report above.

Mattis is really in his element now, eh? I would love to hear his private description of that MOAB. LOL
...or any transfer of power of the presidency of the US from a muslim to an American.
I mean I know once upon a time after 9-11 we went in there to kick ass and get bin Laden. But Bush scuttled that attempt in the early 2000’s and the went on his stupid Iraq venture.
So Bush’s objective became muddled and confused as I think Bush himself was, and then comes Obama who was even more confused and somehow through it all we’re still in Afghanistan.
I think finally in Trump we’ve got someone who if we don’t have a clear reason and object in our being there he’ll get us the hell out. But of course that doesn’t explain the big ass bomb.
If we have a clear legitimate objective in protecting America and her interests by being in Afghanistan now, I have no problem with that. I just think it should be made clear to the American People what those reasons are. I mean are we going after ISIS there? If not, why are we there?
Pest control.
No ISIS is not just Arabs
Many or most of the ISIS fighting in Syria are foreign jihadists, many non Arab (Chechen, Uighur Chinese, whatever Islamic radicals come in many nationalities, including white europeans)- so much for it being a “civil war” against Assad
ISIS leader al-Baghdadi (Iraqi, supposedly) put out a worldwide call for jihad and the rats came running to Iraq and Syria
Part of the reason Russia moved in against “ISIS” was to stomp this vipers nest before it could draw combatants who would then migrate to the former Republics and into Russia
Yes.
Blast radius of 1 mile.
In WW-II, marines were assured that after massive air and naval barrages against tiny atols, they would go in unopposed.
I love the smell of Moab in the morning. Cue the helicopters with “welcome to the jungle” blaring over loudspeakers.
The only thing that makes sense to me. I'm not a military person, so don't fully understand the general's thinking
..However, I really didn't elect Trump to blow stuff up.

Looks like MOAB Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
The psychological effect on survivors and message it sends (can you hear us korean Fat Boy?) is almost as good as watching the blast.
But the C-130 is a big, fat slow target for triple A fire, anti-air missiles and MIGs, none of which would have been a factor in Afghanistan. So they'd have to use the B-1s and release at speed from high altitude.
