The Chinese could simply eliminate the little weasel and annex the pitiful little North Korean state. If they annex the north, they're going to continue with the south.

China and South Korea are financial partners. They would be inheriting a fight they don’t want. It’s bad for business.

They certainly would go all out to woo the South away from the US/Japan. There would be an all-stops-out courtship. SK politics and public opinion is erratic enough that it may work.

If they annex the north, they're going to continue with the south. On what justification or pretext that would satisfy the rest of the civilized world? There is none.
And at what cost? Millions of lives would be lost if China tried to take over South Korea. It would literally result in the political collapse of China as a nation state.
