Democratic activists are claiming a moral victory in Kansas despite narrowly losing a special congressional election there Tuesday night.
Democrat James Thompson came within 10 points of Republican Kansas State Treasurer Ron Estes in the state's safely GOP 4th congressional district.
President Trump carried the district by 27 points in November. Rep. Mike Pompeo, who resigned earlier this year to serve as director of the CIA, won it by 31 points.

Estes, however, is set to prevail by less than 7 points, a warning sign for the House Republican majority less than 100 days into the Trump administration.

The Democraps had another moral victory.
Moral victory my a$$. Actually, Sedgwick County (Wichita) contains about 80 percent of the population in the district. Although the surrounding areas are red, Wichita is one of the bluest areas in the state. The Rats spent a ton of money on the idea of sending a message to Trump. And they lost.
Wishful thinking or even delusional. As long as the Dems and the media keep up their whining and lying for the next two years and it seems they intend to, they will loss even more!
See a pattern , were Democrats losses in 2014 reflections on BHO? And Hillary & Dem losses last November were not rejection of 8 years of BHO
“
Kansas outcome a warning to GOP as Georgia contest nears”
“The outcome was a shot across the bow of the national Republicans as the party faces an even more difficult contest on April 18 in Georgia.”
The Democrats can have all the moral victories they want - as long as the Republicans have the actual victories.
Scoreboard:
Republicans - 1
Democrats - 0
If it lights a fire under the GOP’s ass to get the agenda moving, that may be a good thing. Depending, of course, if it is Trump’s agenda, or the GOPe’s
Georgia’s troubles are self inflicted
I can hear the pep rally speeches. “we’re only lost by 7% in an off year off month special election”.
I’m sure the angry little girls over at DU are muttering in their coffee this morning about Trump and the Russians stealing this one, too. Although, “oddly” enough, I didn’t see this news posted over there. Funny how they use that Sun Tzu technique of ignoring or minimizing their losses (over, and over, and over . . . ).
How can those who have no morals claim a “moral victory”?
Paul Ryan agrees with the demonRATs that since the vote was so close, Ron Estes vote will not count during this term. {I really shouldn't have to do it, but...S/Off}.
Imho, if the GOP continues to punt on taxes, Obamacare and the border, they will lose the Congress in 2018, despite all reasons to the contrary. What possible reasons can they give for republicans to turn out?
Actually they didn't spend much, certainly nothing compared to what they're spending in Georgia. And Thompson was a Bernie Sanders Democrat and not any kind of moderate. And it was a special election with low turnout. There aren't any tea leaves to be read from this one.
I suspect delusional; after losing “flyover country” to Trump, the Dems kept a House Minority Leader from CA and selected a Senate Minority Leader from NY.
They refuse to heed the message; I guess they’ll wait for the demographic time bomb to return them to power (though they better hope Hispanics and blacks don’t continue their slow migration off the plantation).
I mentioned this FACT on another thread:
120,000 votes were cast in the special election... the Republican won by 7 or 8 points.
120,000 is LESS THAN HALF of the number of votes cast last November. 275,000 votes were cast in that election—a full 57% *more* than last night.
So in this Republican district, one would expect that IF the turnout were higher, the number of votes for the Republican would increase and thus the margin would have been larger. The “motivation” in this election was wholly on the Democrat side—and they STILL LOST. So if the Democrat party is ENCOURAGED over this election, they don’t know how to read results realistically.
You can always count on Democrats to find a kernel of corn in a turd and turn it into a gold nugget.
.... and I will add another observation: Nate Silver is as wrong about this as he was about Hitlery’s chances.
If Trump carries through with his proposed 21% cuts to Agriculture then the results in 2018 might be very different.
The spin machine will be fired up with nitro and a super charger today.
Agreed. The GA 6th race is not really about Trump or any national agenda. It is about who can generate turnout in an off year special election.
It is about who has an effective ground game. Who has name recognition. And who is asleep at the wheel of the county and State GOP organizations.
