The GOP can still blow it. I don’t say that as a pessimist ... I’m saying that to temper my (high) expectations at the opportunities we have as conservatives :-)!
People want Trump’s platform. Republicans campaign, for the most part, on Trump’s platform, but make excuses when it comes to implementing anything that reduces the Federal Government’s stranglehold. All the GOP has to do is get some modicum of unity and deliver on a couple of Trump’s key campaign points prior to the 2018 elections ... if they do that, conservatism is going to make some significant gains in 2018 that are going to drive the Democratic Party to a near terminal state since their funding for 2020 will start to dry up!
If the GOP fails to do anything, the Dem’s losses will be marginal and that’ll give them both time and money to facilitate a recovery.
Bottom line, if the GOP is serious about ending the Democratic reign of terror, now is the time to step up and do it. The Democratic Party is at an all time low ... and there is still room for them to sink lower. All the GOP has to do is stick to campaign promises *we* like here on FR and the Democratic Party becomes a West Cost / New York City / Boston party (and even that will fragment).
Something tells me that the GOP wants nothing to do with that ... too much ill earned money is at stake.
There’s also the fact that their strength is concentrated in large population centers. That allows them to win CA, NY, MA, etc but it prevents them from winning and holding a majority of Governors or in Congress, if we are lucky. And as Trump proved, the right message and coaltion can offset their urban strength in the Electoral College.
To your point, that’s why state legislatures need to elect US Senators - not popular vote. Repeal the 17th Amendment.
I think events in Syria, might just determine who gets screwed in 2018.
“If you cant trust polling, what do you do, he wondered.”
I am a journalist, and this presumption on polling as reliable sourcing underscores everything that’s wrong with modern media (I won’t call most of them “journalists” since they know little about developing sources, vetting and cross-referencing, and making reasonable efforts at veracity).
To answer the question I posed: What you do is old-fashioned gumshoe journalism, talking directly to sources on the record and challenging the presumptions of anyone in power - not just those you dislike.
In other words, everything modern media hacks consistently fail to to
> Also never underestimate the stupidity of the GOPe.
Oh, definitely that, too.
It’s as if they’re trying to lose.
What’m I missing here?
No question the GOPe lurks over everything.
But I have a hunch the old codgers are beginning to like “winning.”
So instead of discouraging words, I say let’s reinforce the winning angle every chance we get.
Something else that many pollsters and media *forgot to do was to consider how God fit into this election. This election felt like a David vs Goliath fight to me. I prayed for Trump and our country every day once Comey said there would be nothing more against Hillary on July 5. I’m still praying for him and us every day.
We have to question every assumption we had, he said. I think as a journalist I walk away asking myself some tough questions.”
Perhaps if those “in the know” had any understanding of God, they would realize their assumptions are mush.
*I say forgot, but really they never acknowledged Him in the first place. They will keep failing because He isn’t an integral part of their lives.
Never heard of Muslims huh?
